My husband and I accompanied my father on a medical tour of China. After being duped a few times by the tour leader, we decided to leave the doctors in Chengdu, and travel alone in China--a bold move for non-Chinese speaking Americans with one travel dictionary. Nonetheless, we were promised a visit to the Panda Research Base and the tour leader reneged so we left the group. Fortuitously, the doctors had a lunch at the Angel Hotel in the VIP room on the 3rd floor. It was terrific! Hence, the only hotel we knew was this one (which is why we didn't comment on location). In a city of millions people, we really had no idea what we were near! We can tell you it was an $6 USD taxi ride to the pandas (45 min) and an $8USD ride to airport (45 min). The room was beautiful, although the bed was rock-hard. But having slept in other small chinese cities, we think this is a chinese-bed thing, not an angel hotel thing.
