This is a refreshing and charming change from the standard upmarket Chinese hotel, often effectively on a motorway onramp, and as such impossible to walk from. It's a lovely old building (part of the one time German Governor's compound) with large, comfortable rooms, gorgeous art around the place and some terrific public spaces to while away some time. It's a... More

My client had so far booked rather strange hotels in China and so I decided to book myself and came across the Castle Hotel. Great location for a weeks stay, history (if you are German) and rather arty. Maybe a bit too much arty. Nice big rooms. (Needs more hoovering and carpet cleaning!). There is a Chinese Restaurant downstairs (not... More

Once I went into the hotel room, I thought the room was very small. The decoration and wallpaper were very old. It looked really unpleasant and aged. There were stains on the cushions and sofa. Besides, there were bad smell coming from the drainage in the bathroom. The awful smell spread to the whole room even if we closed the... More

THis is a great property in a nice location let down by service and maintenance which do not rise to the standards that the property deserves. A couple of specific points The staff were very friendly and tried hard but appeared under trained and there was probably just too many of them. Beds, you may as well sleep on te... More

Most of the previous reviews already stated that it is a good hotel! All in all i can confirm that as well and would for sure say it’s well above average. We traveled as a couple. Both of us enjoyed the stay. The room (city view) is nice and clean. The bed is indeed quite firm. It didn’t cause any... More

This hotel was really nice, rooms were very good and the staff excellent nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was also good with cooked choices available on order. It is within walking distance to the beach area, naval museum , and underwater world, if you don't mind walking and there are many beautiful buildings of german architecture on the way.

Slightly quirky but also fairly luxurious hotel set in gardens next to the German Governor's Mansion. It's an interesting part of Qingdao but maybe 15 minutes walk from the seafront. Taxi's are only 9RMB if you don't fancy walking. All the rooms seem to have two single beds which are pushed together if you ask for a double. Although we... More

Traveled to Qingdao for the first time Sep 2013 and stayed in this boutique hotel for 3 nights. It's located at the ''old" city area of Qingdao, within walking distance (10 minutes) to 3 tourist spots i.e. German Governor's Residence, Signal Hill Park and Protestant Church. You can call for a cab to other tourist spots further away and normally... More

I’m writing this review, having just returned from a lovely 4 day stay in Qingdao at The Castle Hotel with my husband for his Birthday. It’s is a very nice boutique hotel in the old town, set on a hill in pretty gardens. The staff at the reception desk on our arrival were friendly and polite, and both spoke English.... More

This boutique hotel makes a great change from the usual large major-chain hotels - surrounded by trees and a great view from the top of the old part of Qingdao. Spacious and modern rooms, quirky artwork and a broad selection of Asian and Western food for breakfast add to this, although our garden view room had more of a car... More
