Room and hotel looks exactly like the pictures... Beautiful but what pictures are not able to portray is the SMELL! The room had a funky smell, toilet plumbing must be bad since it was clean but had a bad odour! Room was stuffy with no air con due to the season of the year but with the smell and heater... More

We arrived at this hotel at 2am after our flight had been delayed. I don't think they were too keen to see us! We had to pull bags over to our block of rooms & heave them up a ramp on a flight of steps. The rooms were beautiful with the best bed on the trip. Silk duvets were fabulous.... More

The hotel is in a quiet area of Suzhou and has nicely appointed rooms. While not a 5 star hotel, it can be a 4.5 hotel. The dining area for breakfast buffet is nice and has a wide array of choices for breakfast. Wifi is strong and fast. The room reflects the old cultural influence of Suzhou. Area around hotel... More

This had a very pleasant large reception area with very friendly and welcoming staff who always wanted to help us. The bedrooms were modern and interesting and very clean. They looked over some small gardens in an atrium. They were perhaps a little dark. The restaurant area was also a little dark, but we found it very pleasant with helpful... More

This was a larger more modern Chinese hotel than we had stayed in as far as Chinese hotels. The staff was super friendly, polite, and helpful and spoke English. We had a lot a good service in China, but the front desk and concierge person, Peter was over the top, in his demonstrated eagerness and quickness to make sure we... More

Good location for seeing the sights and boating on the canals. Lovely gardens, classic style and all the modern amenities. Quiet atmosphere. The hotel offers an excellent buffet breakfast suitable to all tastes. The executive floor rooms are especially nice with private balconies.

Hard to get a better location if you want to stroll along the canals of Suzhou and visit some of the best gardens (like The Humble Administrator's). A few yards from a canal and opening off a bustling but characterful road of infinite small shops, the Scholars Hotel is built in traditional Chinese style, with a small "willow pattern" formal... We were happy with and helped a lot by an English speaking font desk Young Man, Peter, (he even gave us his phone number if we needed and help). When we arrived the bath tub had not been cleaned, a few lights were burnt out, and the save would not lock, but Peter made sure that those problems were taken... More

My parents, My husband and I visited Suzhou in April 2014. We stayed in Scholars Hotel for two days. Overall it is an alright experience. We love the appearance, building style of this hotel. It shows the beauty of Chinese traditional building style. This is unique comparing to other hotels we stayed in during the Spring trip. We also favour... More

If you go to Suzhou, it's really best to stay in the centre of the old town, not in one of the flashy new hotels by Jinji lake. This hotel is decorated in a traditional Chinese style and blends in perfectly with the surroundings. It's luxurious but not fussy. I had the cheapest room, about 600 RMB / 100 USD,... More
