The staff was rude to us upon arrival. We had arranged our room in advance at a set price and when we arrived they acted like we were crazy. We also had a horrible experience with the tuk tuk driver. DO NOT USE THE HOSTELS DRIVER!! There are much kinder and more reasonable drivers on the street. The driver at... More

When I first went to Smiley's (some thee years ago) it was a very different place than it is today. Instead of being greeted with a friendly smile etc you are now met by a very surly/aggressive female receptionist. The rooms with their leaking sinks still remain. However, the price has increased considerably. On my last visit I was offered... More

SUMMARY: For sure the worst stay on our three month trip. We stayed in hostels in Australia, campsites in NZL, jungle cabins at Sumatra and Hotels in Vietnam and Thailand. Even the budget guesthouse in Siem Reap, where we stayed before for half money, was much better. We would never go to Smileys again. good news: We slept fantastic because... More

Smiley's was recommended to me by a few expat friends and we (two single girls) stayed for 4 nights in 2009. Overall, the guesthouse is spacious, clean, airy and well maintained. Rooms are basic but comfortable. Staff are friendly, attentive, and very welcoming. Bonus: The large courtyard is a peaceful place to read a book or to chat with other... More

There are two listings for this guesthouse and I wanted to make sure that travelers viewing both posts got this heads-up! Smiley is a beautiful guesthouse, nice garden, nice rooms. The owner is very nice. I really enjoyed the dogs and chickens (maybe not the rooster at 5am). To me, bad service implies that it is inattentive and slow.Food comes... More

There aren't many hostel-type places in Siem Reap, as most of the accommodation is in guest houses, so this is a good find. The rooms are clean and spacious, the staff are friendly, the food and drink is good and cheap, and the communal courtyard is a great place to meet other travellers. The location is central enough to walk... More

I stayed at smileys for a long time and for the money- $8 a night for your own room- it is excellent value. Staff are friendly an rooms are pretty good... Only downsides is that sound travels terribly from room to room so you can hear everything, and it gets pretty bright in the morning so it is hard to... More

Out of the way enough to be quiet, but central to everything in Siem Reap! Walking distance to Pub street, night markets, the river front etc. Super cheap and the food there is very decent too for the price. A place to do your washing a couple of doors up for $1 a kilo. The staff were absolutely incredible, always... More

The staff was very friendly! As a 23 year old at the time, I felt very safe. The food in their restaurant was so good and had american food (with a Khmer touch). The courtyard in the hotel was beautiful! There was a internet cafe close by with friendly staff! The air conditioning didn't work in my room so they... More
