Vitebsk is a delightful city well worth visiting. The Luchesa has good rooms and awful rooms. We asked for a king bedded room and got a room sized for a king. We did not stay there since 2011,and in three years there are three changes: a new TV, free wifi, and finally blinds on the windows! However, no english channels, restaurant still charges in rooms during the room service, same old squeaky furniture in the apartments, same old beds and linens. Plenty of hot water, clean room, towels and bed linen, sufficient toiletries, free in room wi-fi. I found no English language tv channels, the remote for the aircon was missing (there was an openable window), the room safe was idiosyncratic and I could hear my neighbours' tv through the walls. As all of Vitsebsk was booked out I had to choose the Luchosa, which is situated at a large trunk road away from the center. To get there you need your own transport or ride the trolleybus (reading cyrillic maps or asking your way in Russian...). For rates they charge I would agree with fellow travellers: it's a bit odd to complain, the hotel is much cleaner & breakfasts are much better than any 3* average european hotels in the range up to EUR 100 double room per night. Felt like being in a time warp and we had gone back to the early 1950's in a poor country. The room is small and uncomfortable, with lousy furniture, lousy design, lousy bathroom, lousy TV. This hotel was built in 2004 and is a functional hotel catering for business and leisure travellers.The staff is competent and helpful with some speaking English others not.
