For my wife and I the Forty Winks is perfect. Right on Hwy 23, easy to find, close to shopping and food, and right across the street from a great beach & park. Beautiful area and great if you have kids. Queen beds are comfy, room was spotless, toilet flushed and the shower worked. Fridge in room. The owner(owned for... More

40 Winks was an older styling room, but clean and comfy. The rooms were not real large but adequate. There was a small refrigerator in the room. No microwave. We had to go up to the office to get our coffee...but it was good coffee: ) There was a beach right across the street we could easily walk to. The... More

If you ever get a chance to visit Alpena, MI check out the 40 Winks Motel. Owner Christine Barnes is the best! Our school group stayed here during the 2014 International MATE ROV competition. Rooms are exceptionally clean with comfortable beds. The 40 Winks Motel is ideally situated near a beach, shopping, and plenty of places to eat. Chris and... More

I took my grandkids away fur a couple days and choose 40 Winks for it's location to the things I wanted to do with the kids. Clean and just what we needed for the short time there... Slept with the window open and had no trouble sleeping. Starlight beach right across the street was fun to visit. Owner was helpful... More

Forty Winks is quaint, simple, and cozy. It's located across the street from a park on the banks of Lake Huron. Other than that, there is nothing really special about this motel. I was too tired to closely inspect anything, but there was nothing obviously wrong with the room except for quite a few cobwebs. The room in which my... More

Needed to stop for the night and picked 40 Winks at random. Room was OK, fairly clean, desk clerk not the friendliest. It is across from a public park and about 2 blocks from a Dairy Queen (bonus in my book). On a busy street so not really quiet. It did have a fridge.

The rooms are clean enough but very small. The real problem is the noise. The rooms, parking lot and the road all share a small area. I stayed 4 nights total and all 4 night the very noisy environment kept me awake too much. 3-4 am was the noisiest time

Great value. The exterior is neat and clean, this is a good sign when I look for a place to stay. The room was really clean, albiet, a little dated. This does not bother me. Room does have a small fridge. Staff was friendly. Great location for me. This will be my Alpena home when we are down this way.... More

The customer service was below average. The maid service was below average, they couldn't even make the beds, however it was fairly clean. The coffee was good in the morning. But if for any reason you have to leave town a day early DO NOT except to get your money back. I have traveled all over the country, stayed at... More

Stayed the night here while passing through. Right across the street from a public beach. Clean room, working on a budget, happy with this choice. Friendly owner. Would stay again if in town. Beds were comfortable.
