I must have spent 20 hours doing accommodation research for Luang Prabang and I must say it paid off. In my opinion Mekong Estate is by far the best and most atmospheric place to stay in LP! I saw many of the other resorts, tried the spas at Phou Vao, de la Paix, Maison Souvannaphoum, had lunch at Amantaka and... More

My family and I had a wonderful time at Mekong Estates with our daughter, 2, and son, 5 months. They staff – Toey and Nan and the rest of staff - where so kind and helpful it made our stay that much more enjoyable. They provided us a child seat for bikes and it was easy 5-minute ride to town.... More

A beautiful quiet hotel, right on the banks of the Mekong. Perfect as a base for exploring Luang Prabang. You are far enough from town to be away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, but close enough for a 5 min tuk tuk ride. Not advertised in Lonely Planet, this was recommended to us by a retired French Commando!... More

After a week in Siem Reap my friend and I arrived in Luang Prabang but were not happy with the hotel we booked. We walked around the town and then decided to check this place out as we had seen it on the net but were apprehensive about it being out of town. We could not believe how beautiful it... More

We enjoyed our stay at Maison Rouge which is situated on the banks of the Mekong River and overlooks a wonderful pool. I stayed there with my son and daughter and it was great because each bedroom had its own bathroom and all had shower recesses. The stairs to the two bedrooms upstairs are quite steep. Airconditioning worked well, overhead... More

We had a lovely four night stay at the Moulin Rouge (referred to as the Red House) which shares the pool area with the Jade and Sunset Houses. Luckily, while we were there we had these three houses to ourselves, however were happy to share the pool with the other occupants on the Estate - we hardly saw them! This... More

We stayed in "The Loft" at Mekong Estate for 3 weeks in September. From the time we were picked up on arrival from the slow boat until the morning we left we had a most welcoming, relaxing and interesting stay. The Loft is actually a small open plan cottage (check out the website) with a microwave and 2 burner stove,... More

Mekong Estate is a few minutes tuk-tuk ride from the main city and is in a non-touristy part of the city. It is a beautiful haven from the hustle and bustle of the main town. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves on most of the 6 days we were there and the gorgeous pool was a blessing... More

Three days spent at this wonderful hotel, located on the Mekong river just outside Luang Prabang old town. The setting is absolutlutely stunning. It is easy to get into town either using the hotel shuttle, tuktuk or one one of the hotel bikes. The standard of accommodation is very high and the staff are very helpful. This is an ideal... More

Since returning home, we have recommended this comfortable hideaway to friends, I wish our time there had been longer. After enjoying the old part of town for four nights, in a quality, central hotel, busily exploring markets, restaurants, waterfalls and other tourist attractions, the Mekong Estate was a lovely, laid back way to conclude our Luang Prabang holiday. Two of... More
