The best thing about the Silver Star is its proximity to the best eating in Mandalay- the chapatis stand on the corner, Nepali Food, and of course, Nylon Ice Cream Bar. I didn't venture out in this neighborhood after dark, though- there are lots of creepy guys setting up porn stalls in the street and that doesn't make a solo... more
Good value for the money. Disconcerting to see the reception staff rush away to turn the generator on so we could use the lift! Handy spot in central city. more
In February my wife and I stayed a night at the Silver Star in Mandalay. Our room (on the 4th floor, I believe) was clean, quiet, and fantastic value. Hotel is in a reasonable location, and no problems with mosquitoes. We paid $28 for our room, and this seemed to be great value compared to other options. more
