We got to the hotel on a rather slow day. There were very few guests. We got to choose our own room and found a very nice room on the top floor. It was a room in the northeast corner, so you get the view of the palace and the Shan mountains. This room is a little more spacious than... more

The most memorable element of our stay was breakfast on the roof, overlooking the city. Front desk staff are helpful, but it's best to see a few different rooms before you commit to one as they do vary. Elevator was usually out, but not too bad a hike up and down stairs. Location convenient to range of eateries. more

Good location, top roof breakfast space - overlooking town - clean rooms, rooms being average but everything one needs is there. some noise from outside as it is next to a Kindergarten or primary school at the west side - ask for room higher up. Quiet area though central. Will stay there again! more

We found this hotel in the Lonely Planet and were not disappointed. We were greeted at the bus station in Mandalay and taken to the hotel early in the morning. Even though it was only 530 in the morning we were able to check into our room right away. The people at the front desk are friendly and will help... more

Couldn't say enough about this fantastic place - the staff really make it though. The rooms are quite spacious, and have a fridge (which I just love in hot places!). Yes, the electricity is dodgy in Burma, but that's not the hotel's fault and their generator kicked in each time it went out. The location of this hotel is good... more

On my way to north Myanmar, I stayed 3 nights in this hotel. Then on my way back south I stayed another couple of nights (tells you what I thought about it the first time!). The more expensive rooms are large, clean, quiet and comfortable – nothing luxurious (not surprising at this price!), but rooms have an en-suite bathroom, large... more

We stayed here for 3 nights on our trip through Myanmar in May 2007. We had a decently sized room with private bathroom, good air conditioning when the city block's ration was on (sporadic) or, at the very least, from late night til early morning. One of the better breakfast spreads in Mynamar! The staff was great -- always cleaning,... more

I found my room large with a sitting area besides the bed, and nice shower/bathroom. I met interesting people in the lobby and at breakfast. Laundry was available and general service was very helpful. My only bad experience was that I asked to buy gems from the hotel clerk and she called a Mr. kosoewinn. On my return to Canada... more

If you want to stay in Mandalay for a few days to see the citys sights, this is a perfect hotel. The staff is very nice and helpful. Don't excpect too much luxury in the rooms. But it is clean, you have electricity (not that common all day long), nice breakfast and a good location to see the town. more

We stayed at Royal City Hotel in Mandalay for 3 nights. We found they charged a fair value for things like water, beer, coke and transportation to the airport. In fact most of their prices were much better than what we could find on the streets of Mandalay. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. When we discussed our... more
