It's old, it's dirty, it's inefficient. The breakfast was dire, the bread was stale the fruit was old, the hot buffet was always cold. The table linen was threadbare, the lift was ancient. On day the tap water was dark brown - the same water they cook in. In its prime, it would have been a nice hotel but it... more

Booked this Hotel not knowing what to expect as I had found this cheap deal on the net. Just to let you know, we are normally backpackers, the cheaper end of the scale, so when we arrived at the door of this establishment we were awe struck. We were greeted with a refreshing juice and smiles. Reception staff very welcoming... more

We stayed at the Metropole in Alexandria for 2 nights in December 2008 and had an excellent time. I read the recent reviews and honestly do not know why they were so negative. The location is excellent, right in the town centre, with a sea view. Raml station is just a few minutes walk, from there you can take a... more

I stayed at the Metropole in Oct 2008 and after reading some review that if you pre book they send you to another hotel I decided to book directly by just giving my credit card no as deposit. They had given me a price which I confirmed by fax but when we arrived they toled us that the particular room... more

We booked this hotel 3 weeks prior to arrival at a discounted rate for prebooking. Upon arrival we were advised that the hotel was full and the electricity was not working in our room. Having already prepaid the accommodation reception advised that we had been "rebooked" at their sister hotel the "Paradise Inn" at Mamoura. The sister hotel is located... more

What started out to be a good stay, ended up a miserable one. Bed bugs resulted in lack of sleep for the one night I stayed at the Metropole, and in a bad allergy for the following couple of days. What was even more disappointing was the reaction of the management, even when they saw the actual bug. No acknowledgment... more

Old hotel, great location, except for the noise. Small room, good bathroom, good bed, mini frig didn't work very well. Room looked out over the square and had great views...but windows didn't close properly (neither one as the there to French Doors) Good restaurant and lounge area. Excellent staff. They were painting the hallways and the new admin. room that... more

Lovely old hotel in great location. I walked from the train station - it was a bit of a hike and they were tearing up the streets but it wasn't too bad with a backpack. They were very friendly when I arrived and had room even though I didn't have a reservation (thanks to my dodgy travel agent). Nice but... more

We loved our stay at the Metropole. It was very centrally located, within walking distance of many places. The staff was very very helpful. We had an incident with a cab driver and they were great about helping us resolve it. The rooms are nice, but a bit dated and the attempt at making this some grand European estate fell... more

The Metropole Hotel has a central location in Alexandria main square. The staff was really nice. We just stayed for one night (not even that) on our way from Cairo to Frankfurt. They even prepared for us a box with breakfast at 1 a.m. !! The hotel is kept in a every "Agatha Christie style"...The only thing is that they... more
