This hotel is in the perfect location. Just across the street from the Mediterranean sea and walking distance to many of the sites. The rooms are HUGE but are a little dated. They serve the best breakfast and the service is very efficient. Overall it was good and I would stay there again:) more

As an older couple, we stayed at the Sofitel Cecil in April, 2009 in search of its historic origins. They gave us the 'Om Kalsoum' suite on the North-east corner - great views from both balconies. It's certainly quaint but charming. The buffet breakfasts and meals in the main dining room and the Asian roof-top restaurant were good. My wife... more

Looks very nice from the outside, and yes, it's a very historic hotel but... It's too old for Sofitel. Rooms definitely need refurbishment, so does the lobby area. Everything looks dusty and worn out. Although can't fault the service and food - deserves its 4*. more

Needless to stay its a great heritage property well maintained over the years. It has that real old world charm. A place where legendary Agatha christie also stayed. Huge rooms with big bathroom. A flawless property. Highly appreciable breakfast spead, unbelievable. Large selection of breads and juices to say the least. Excellent quality food of a very high standard. Flawless. more

I switched to this hotel when the Metropole ran out of room on my 4th night in Alexandria. Compared to the Metropole this hotel is a bit more polished - nice beds, contemporary bedding, double glazed modern windows, nice new bathroom, table and chairs near window, etc. It was expensive enough that I had to give up my window view,... more

Wonderful location.. was very glad that our first choice El Samalek was full - way too far out of town, overly smart & uninviting place (dinner jackets required etc). At Cecil, recommend upper floor , sea view room NB we had booked sea view room via their website for our 3 night stay but were initially shown a very small... more

Existing in the past (Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill et al stayed here). Nothing bad to report but nothing to get excited about apart from a lift which said 'Do not use in case of Fire or Earthquake' . Room suite was very big but noisy. Amenties and breakfast OK. Roof terrace lacked any class. Would try somewhere else next time... more

Terrible: very poor service, antiquated rooms (windows that do not open, broken furniture, old beds, etc.), dated bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was adequate (with horrendous service) but the Chinese restaurant on the roof is a joke. I went to the "health club" on the top floor for my daily fitness routine and could not believe what I saw: a few... more

First visit to Alex for work. Really liked the antique style elevator - very quaint and definitely a nice feature to retain to add character to the building. Rooms are generously sized and understandbly not overy modernised. Think mine was named after Muhammed Ali. I saw one of the neighbouring rooms was Omar Sharif! Breakfast buffet offered a good range... more
