My friend and I checked in to The Best Western Royal Hotel 4 stars, Plovdiv, 6 Belgrad Str. Situated in the centre of Plovdiv.

The hotel was selected by us from a list we were provided by our travel agent. And we hoped 4 stars would give us a good experience. Thus we started on our worst hotel experience in Bulgaria, 4 stars notwithstanding. The first issue was stairs. There was an unexpected step between the doorway and the check-in desk and I almost fell on my face; there were stairs to get to the elevator from the desk and no railing. There were stairs where one would not expect them.

When I got to my room I was amazed at the huge size, and that I had two rooms; but there were no drawers in the bedroom, and the other room, with the drawers, had a very weak light and a windowed wall looking at offices, so I had to draw the drapes, giving me little light, or choose to be seen.
