While being on a cycling trip I booked a room for myself and 2 companions of mine. It was done a bit less then a week in advance. Via HostelWorld, where you get a clear picture of what is going on, and it said that you had to pay on arrival. So. A couple of hours later an email pops... More

How sad to have to write a 1 star review for Retro Hostel Schevchenko. A one night stay was one night too many. Visit Lviv by all means, a beautiful medieval city, and like all places in the Ukraine, the staff were lovely, but what a shame the management had let the place run down so much. Find somewhere else... More

We were at the Retro hostel in Lviv in June 2011, the location is amazing - on the one of the most beautiful avenues in Lviv, centre of the city, wonderful! Loads of bars, shops and anything you need in the surroundings, easy way to get anywhere in the city centre and around it. Nice staff, they helped us to... More

if you are looking for a budget place to spend your time this is an alright option. though the mattresses were a bit hard . We had to make our own beds . the towels and blankets that we were provided were too small. My legs kept sticking out of the blanket. The locks to the bathrooms and to the... More

We were a bit scared after reading reviews on Lviv's hostels, so decided to get the cheapest one to be sure not to overprice bad service etc. We were surprized to get nice double in the center of the city with private bathroom overlooked to the roof with a cat on it ;) It seems to be new rooms on... Location is very good, it's in the center, close to all attractions. Room was very basic, sometimes there wasn't hot water. Atmosphere is good and staff are ok. There is lounge in the front of entrance (covered courtyard) where we met some others guests and one evening there was nice party. Summary, for this price it's good place to stay... More

Shevchenko is good, shevchenko is bad, shevchenko is a bit of everything really. We were welcomed by a northern Irish midget who threatened to kneecap us, then chugged a bottle of wine and passed out on the couch. The location is perfect, within 10 minutes walk of all the beautiful sites and nightspots in central L'viv. The atmosphere is 'anything... More

The place was absolutely filthy, the staff weren't that bad, the guests were mostly loud drunks and large groups of polish transients. After using the shower you actually felt dirtier than you did before entering it. I mean we were after a bit of Eastern European grime, but after a few days here I felt like I needed a tetanus... It was quite clean and location was nice as well. However, our room (private) was extremely small and that's why not very comfortable. We did not like staff too.

I can't believe this place is even listed here. An absolute disgrace. Akin to a 'gulag' I would suggest.
