I have been staying at Casa Marie periodically since 2003. I do fieldwork in Guatemala, and always begin and end my time in that country with a stay at Casa Marie.

The house is gorgeous, with an extraordinary garden, and artwork, textiles, and artifacts scattered throughout the building that will keep you distracted for hours. There is little better than watching the hummingbirds as you eat breakfast in the garden.

Casa Marie is very centrally located, only 2 blocks from the Parque Central. It is situated next to one of the most beautiful ruins in Antigua, Ruina del Carmen, which currently holds an artisan market (you can get all your shopping done right next door!).

Marie and her young son Sergio are both fluent in Spanish, French, and English. They are wonderful people, and although this is a bed and breakfast-type accommodation, privacy is respected and it can often feel as if you are the only one there.
