We had previously stayed at the Gato Negro in Quetzaltenango which was a very pleasant experience. We decided to keep it in the family and stay there in Antigua. Was welcomed with a friendly bar girl and checked in quickly by the reception staff. Beds were a bit stiff. Solid happy hour. Decent menu. Good location. Would have liked to... More

The guidebook states that this place is 'always hopping' but unfortunately the only thing hopping for us were the bed bugs which quickly emerged soon after the lights went out!! To be fair the guy on night shift was quite apologetic (yet not entirely surprised) about the entire matter and offered that we changed room. We chose to check out... More

I stayed here 2 nights in June and it was the worst hostel in 2.5 months of travel through Central America and Southeast Asia. I booked a single room, arrived late, and due to my sleepiness, the well-made bed, and the dim lighting I didn't discover until the next morning that a portion of the sheets were STILL soaked with... This is a great little hostel, especially considering the price. 65Q (€6.50) per night, including a huge delicious breakfast which you would pay €5 for anyway! The dorms are small and very basic, the beds are really comfortable. Great location, a 2 minute walk from the main square. Great relaxed atmosphere. The food is great, the bar is really fun... More

Meh. Nothing special here. Antigua has a ton of places and stuff to offer. We only stayed here because we arrived in Antigua at 1030pm and was the first place that opened their door for us. Stay in a top dorm room. The bottom ones have a mold smell to it due to lack of ventilation. Good free breakfast. Good... More

DO NOT STAY HERE. Lots of bedbugs in at least 3 rooms. We changed rooms, they didn't bother cleaning our old room when we left and people moved into it and (surprise surprise) got bedbugs. My friend developed peri orbital cellulitis from bites around her eye and had to pay $US 50 for antibiotics. The staff didnt care when we... More

Definitely a backpacker hostel! Lively environment, comfortable enough if you´re looking for the best cheapest option. The accommodations are very simple but It´s ridiculously cheap (65Q) and it even includes breakfast! ( which is a good portion and the menu is varied and expat-friendly.) Had an amazing time there! I´m definitely coming back.

El Gato Negro Inn was a great choice to stay. It is centrally located just two blocks from the central plaza, secure with a gated front door, and the rooms are centered around a beautiful garden courtyard. Antigua is more expensive to stay at then other places in the country, so the beautiful double rooms felt like a steal at... More

We stayed here one night while in transit through Antigua and I wouldn't stay here again. The bar is good but the people staying here are a bit too 'cool'. Dorms are dingy and the mattresses are paper thin - mine also seemed to have a bit missing in the middle so I had no support whatsoever. I also got... More

This hostel is gross...and i've slept on a cot, on a dirt floor, with no running water, while volunteering in El Salvador, so it takes quite a lot for me to give a terrible review. DO NOT STAY HERE! I give one "star" because: Its CHEAP. They do offer a nice, home-cooked breakfast. The people who check you in are... More
