It would be hard to find a more scenic location. Owners were great as was the breakfast and nightly desert. The piano was also played at nice and even during breakfast. Very nice lighthouse tour. I found the room to be a little small but given it was a lighthouse that was to be expected. Very Victorian to say the... More

The lighthouse is a charming old building that we loved visiting. Wished we hadn't committed to staying there though. All the rooms were over-furnished and cluttered. The gaudy window treatments and bedspreads were over-due in being cleaned. There was dust everywhere. Our bedroom floor was wooden, but with about 3 inches of dust near all the walls. There was lint... More

Let me start by saying that if you are looking for a cold, impersonal hotel room where you are left alone and stay in your room and watch TV or play on your computer, then Sand Hills is NOT the place for you. But if you enjoy being doted on, pampered with amazing desserts at night and fabulous home cooked... More

As lighthouse lovers, we were beyond our dreams on our recent visit (Oct. 6-9, 2013) to this historically preserved treasure surrounded by woods facing Lake Superior. This visit was totally enhanced by the friendly innkeepers, Mary and Bill. The lighthouse is so charming with Victorian decor, Mary's scrumptious breakfasts and desserts as well as her grand piano concerts. Mary and... More

If you want to feel like you are visiting family you've never met before and be treated like royalty, this is the place to go! From the moment you get here, to the moment you leave, you feel like family. Mary and Bill know and share the history of the lighthouse, while you explore the different rooms, knooks and Krannies... I had the wonderful opportunity to spend the night at the Sandy Hill Light House this summer. From the minute I arrived until I left, Mary and Bill treated me as family. What a wonderful history the lighthouse has and Mary loves to share it. They have definitely put their heart and soul into restoring Sand Hill. After we arrived,... More

According to the sign posted at the road and by a lighthouse web site the property is open to the public daily from 12-4 pm and the owners offer a tour of the lighthouse daily at 3:04 pm. After 4pm only registered guests are allowed on the property. We arrived at 2:00 pm and while walking around the property a... More

The location is just absolutely beautiful. Bill and Merry Mary have done wonders with this place understanding where they started in 1961 and where they are now. Mary takes you on the tour and likes everyone to be there so she doesn't answer the same question over and over. The lighthouse does not operate as a lighthouse today but the... More

My husband and I travel to the UP every summer, and to the Keweenaw almost every other year. It is one of the most, if not the most beautiful areas in Michigan. If you love the UP (and it's not for everyone - thank goodness!) you will love Sand Hills Lighthouse Inn. By the end of the tour given by... More
