We stayed at the White Elephant on October 7th. Great water front location. The hotel offers free shuttle service to/from the harbor and also to the shopping area which is a couple blocks away. This is a charming hotel. Easy check-in/out. The hotel staff was friendly and courteous. We enjoyed our room - nice amenities including a box of chocolates... more

Beautiful view from our room with a small deck overlooking the harbor. Room was clean and beautifully decorated. A bit snug, but cozy. Afternoon tea very enjoyable. more

My family and I just got back from a terrific 4-day stay at the White Elephant. The staff was wonderful. Our one bedroom suite, albeit small, was comfortable. The bed and down quilt were extremely plush and we all slept exceptionally well, including my 21 month old son who is picky about sleeping in new places. My son slept in... more

The hotel itself is lovely, as are the grounds but the service seemed lacking. The afternoon cheese and crackers and the morning coffee and muffins seemed to just miss the mark. Everyday, there was something missing, napkins, coffee urn didn't work. Had a slight problem with housekeeping which still remains unresolved. I expected better from a hotel of this caliber.... more

My husband and I stayed here the first week of november and we loved it! The rooms were beautiful and very affordable since we were there during the off season (no crowds!) The weather was great at first but we got stuck there a few extra days because of a hurricaine. The staff was so great! once i had to... more

We went to the white elephant mid week and after the summer rush so the hotel may not have been full. the staff were never stressed or too busy - infact there was a lovely friendly atmosphere from the moment we arrived. it was a special occasion (30th wedding anniversary) & my husband had spoken with the advance concierge service... more

Most of the complaints I see here are from people who paid insane sums of money ($750) for one night stays. I suppose that does distort one's vision and raises their expectations. I stayed there for 2 nights using their "Too Good to Be True" rates of $225/night. The stay was the best I've ever had in any hotel. The... more

My first red flag should have been: 'no refunds for any reason, so be sure to get trip insurance!" Second: they deducted the full amount from my credit card immediately, no deposits here! I asked for best room available (it was a special event) and for $700 per night we were given a 11' x 13' sleeping cubicle with a... more

The pictures tell the story...you can't beat the views and the rooms (cottage style) are comfy and stylish. But the secret of the White Elephant is their concierge service. We used the service extensively for all of our needs on the islands (she even handled a two day trip to Martha's vineyard for us). A lovely Scotish lass (or Irish?..I... more

Our chief complaint with this hotel is that the walls are paper thin. We stayed there this past September in Room 3-254 and could hear the man snoring loudly in the room next to ours. For $750 per night (plus tax), I should not have to listen to my neighbor snore -- or even his conversations with his significant other/wife... more
