There are very few tourists on Christmas Island at the moment, with flight schedules up in the air, and the few hotels often full of government workers. But if you do go, you will be amply rewarded by a wonderful island.

We stayed at the Sunset which had great views (take a top floor Ocean View Room), and was clean, comfortable and run a very friendly and informative couple. It's more akin to a motel, and no food is available, so you need a car (4x4 is best!) to get around, but you do get a fridge, microwave and toaster, and there is a pub a short stroll away (better food available a short drive away). Free internet access as well.

It's certainly not full service, but Sunset does exactly what it needs to do, and I didn't see anything better. Nice little pool to relax in (as you can't access the sea from our front as it's too rocky). Highly and happily recommended. more
