We found Managua quite boring capital city, so it was only a one-night-stop between flight to Corn island. Casa Vanegas is indeed clean and safe place. Though the area looks dodgy in the dark - better take taxi. We stayed in room No.1 for $18. Houselady allowed to leave half of our luggage for 6 days, as we had flight... More

So this isn't really a hostel but if you have a 5am Tica bus like we did it is perfect. Ladies who run it are friendly, rooms start at $16 for two w a fan & tv - shared bathroom 2metres away. Is a $4 cab ride from UCA and a 30 second walk from Tica bus stop. We turned... More

Close to the Tica bus, family run hostel with spotless tiny rooms. Very quite and safe place. The family is English speaking. Location is good for the transit but not for the walking around as this part of Managua is not nice. But I am afraid, Managua is not nice in general. The room was enough specious for two persons,... Stayed here whilst transiting through Managua. A friendly family run hostel with decent on suite private rooms for a low cost. Helpful staff though little English is spoken by most. Staff arranged a 4am taxi for us and got up to open the main gate. Area is a little sketchy after dark but otherwise fine. Nice little place if you... More

This is clealy a hostel that people use only for a night between Tica buses, and for that, its good, but I wouldnt like to staymuch longer there. Once at the Tica bus office, you just turn right and at the end of the block, about 100m is the hostel, there is no bell on the gate so you need... More

I stayed in Casa Vanegas for two nights. The neighbourhood is probably one of the safest in the city, but don't expect much. There are some restaurants and comedores around, but many seem to be closed most of the time. And even if they are open, the fences and doors may still be closed, which is not very inviting. Probably... More

During my recent trip to Nicaragua I stayed in this friendly family-owned hostel for almost a week, good value for your money, clean, I had no problem with any bugs as somebody commented before, which I was a little worried, but I mentioned this to the owner to make sure, she mention they have been very careful about it since... The beds weren't the most comfortable, but the room was excellent value for money - the tv was useful in the evenings when we couldn't be wandering around! Staff were helpful and the place was really safe - they even watched us walk to the bus station at 5am to check we got there safely. Less than a block from... More

Stayed at this little family-owned hostel overnight so I could catch a 2AM bus to Guatemala. It wasn't my first time staying there. The woman who owns it is very friendly as well as her niece and son. When I need to stay in Managua I always end up staying there instead of a top notch hotel.

Our plane landed in Managua at 1:00 am and our taxi dropped us off at Casa Vanegas at around 2 in the morning. Lights were off and the place locked up, but we had made reservations and after the taxi driver hollered, they came and let us in. The room was basic- clean, fan, TV. The courtyard was nice. There...
