Arriving in San Salvador after a long day travelling down from Flores in Guatemala, I needed somewhere clean, relaxed, comfortable and friendly. This ticked all the boxes. I was hesitant about paying $8 but the hostel is in one of the most secure areas of the city and is essentially a converted big house/mansion. It's very nice inside and incredibly... More

We really liked this hostel. The whole house gave me a "homey" feeling which was very nice. It has a good quality kitchen, and a nice common area with a tv and table to eat at. The rooms are not fancy, but they were everything we needed! Two beds and some room on the floor to our bags, plus very... More

The room was very nice. Large with comfortable bed, cable TV, plenty of storage space, warm homie decore, great location! But the best part of our stay was the way Malcolm and Walter treated us. Went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Walter gave us a 4:00 wake-up with a smile. Very helpful with directions ANYWHERE.... More

For my first time in el Sal, this hostel was great. I felt safe, it was clean and the atmosphere was amazing. They have tons of bathrooms to use, they have a washer/dryer that either you can use or Sara will do it for you(fee either way) but I like to do my own wash. Beds were good, ac or... More

One of the best hostels in San Salvador! Safe neighborhood & home atmosphere! Late in the evening you can walk safely to the restaurant or the bar. Staff is helpful and speaks good in English. Walter is ready to help at any time! Hot water in the showers, fully equipped kitchen.... there is everything what need tired backpacker!

I really liked this place-stayed here twice. Clean large dorm rooms, plenty of fans in room. Hot water with rain shower heads. The staff was shy but very friendly. The owner wasn't around when I stayed but he sent me a detailed email answering all my questions before I arrived. Only down side is that its in a kind of... More

overall we had a good stay at this place. There was AC in our room and hot showers. There was also a communal kitchen for guests. The place was quite full with a wide variety of guests which was nice. We took a taxi to the centre but are glad we didn't stay in the centre. We got good service... More

We enjoyed our stayed in this hostal. Staff was really helpful, specially Sarita. She is always there for you. Very nice hostal. Loved the fact that is in downton, so you can move around easily. We will definitely recommend this hostal to anybody! We will stay there again whenever

Thank you for taking the time to review us, and thank you for your very kind comments. I have passed them on to Walter and his cousin Sara who do such a wonderful job managing the Hostal Cumbres del Volcan when we are away. We read all our reviews and try to learn something from all of them. Hope to... More

I had a bad experience in San Salvador - (I strongly advise walking in groups, in known areas and or taxing taxi's) - but despite that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in San Salvador thanks in large part to the helpful and kind staff at this hostel. It is a great value for money, quiet, has all the amenities, clean,... More

We are very sorry your problem. I have a guide that is available to guests that reviews safety concerns and practices to stay safe. Our Facebook page and the web site Backpackista.com also have some excellent pointers on safety in Latin America. Although I believe San Salvador is not as dangerous as its reputation, still it is a big city... More

We arrived in the middle of the night and was taken well care of by the staff. We slept one night in dorm and one in private - both good, but the private was a bit small. Nice with all the dvds to watch, all in all a good place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We always learn something for all our reviews. We have larger private rooms, but unfortunately they are more expensive. Privates range from $20.00 (the tiny room with shared bath that you stayed in) to $45.00 for an air conditioned room with private bath and 2 queen size beds-- and including breakfast.... More
