I went to Zagreb with the intention of staying a night or 2 and then heading to Zadar. However, the hostel was really nice and the staff extremely helpful. Actually, I wouldn't call them staff. I'd call them a group of friends working together for the benefit of the hostel. Igor, who's the head of the hostel is probably one... More

Everything about this hostel was great! Igor was a wonderful host the hostel is beautiful and everything was clean and comfortable. If you go to Zagreb on a budget (or not, if you like hostels) there's no reason to look further than Mali Mrak!

First, I should start by apologizing that this review is very long overdue. I stayed at Mali Mrak a few months ago while backpacking. I think that Mali Mrak is an exceptionally special place. What makes it so special is the people and the conversations you have, for sure. Igor, the owner, is a remarkable person who genuinely wants to... More

This was our second time (frist time in 2010) at Hostel Mali Mrak and each time we reached the hostel at 2AM and there was someone to check us in - great points for this from us. The rooms have bunk beds, but confortable. Very nice garden if you have good weather.

In the two nights we've stayed there we got to know the hosts, which were more than friendly and very interesting to talk to! The rooms are comfortable.. only downside: the location is pretty much at the edge of the city but it's in a friendly and quiet neighborhood.

Exactly, we're not in the city center, nor do we want to be, dear, there's plenty of hostels already located there, and for those who want the regular tourist routine i suggest book one of those, some of them are really nice. A city is usually a tiny bit more than just its center, so to speak, and chances are... More

The people who work here are really nice. Upon my arrival, they helped me check in and then let me use their laundry machine and dryer...for FREE. I've stayed at a bunch of hostels and rarely do they let you use their laundry facilities for free. The bathrooms are incredibly clean. I got lucky and stayed in a 4-bunk room... More

Handily situated not two minutes down the road from the Črnomerec tram stop, when we arrived at Mali Mrak we had little idea how good it would be. Sure, the hostel initially looked largely like any other, clean and spacious with great facilities and incredibly helpful staff, but that's not what made it - the thing that makes Mali Mrak... More

We've been in the Mali Mrak Hostel in December, at Christmas. Very friendly staff. Small rooms with comfortable beds. We got a map of Zagreb at the front desk and all the information you need. In the common room there are two computers with internet running well. In the hostel wifi works very well. The advantage is that you can pay... More

We really enjoyed our stay at this hostel in Zagreb. The atmosphere was very good, a good place to meet other backpackers, though it was still quiet enough to sleep (unlike some places we've stayed!!). There was a great array of facilities, a computer room with 3 computers, a common room with a large DVD collection, laundry room, and a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to our house! It's quite an ordinary and simple place, located 10 minutes by tram from the city center, "were you awake to the twitter of birds", as one guest aptly put it. What we prefer here in Mali Mrak is an exchange of ideas, lifestyles, cuisine, freedom, philosophy, tolerance, new perspectives and friendship! Here, you can do and be who you are (except for a few house rules :D) and have a nice time with us. We also support travelers in all possible ways - if you think you can contribute to our place (we do art, play music, etc), do it and stay the night for free or get a discount. Visit us, it's all about expanding our ways and views, learning each others customs and ways. Our place is just a miniscule way-point on your road, but it can be a memorable one indeed. We offer simplicity and common sense, respect and honesty. If you understand this spirit, we will all get much more from your visit here than just a stay at 'another place'. Besides that, we have many other nice stuff here *rpg's (Planescape setting) and board games, upon request available*you can have free yoga sessions, if you are interested in that *certified medicinal massage for a very good price (our dear neighbor Anna), *drama workshops for guests *insider info (Zagreb and Cro off the beaten tourist tracks)Additionally, there's free laundry service, wi-fi etc. - the little things that make the road a much more pleasant experience. Please note that we do not allow heavy drinking in the hostel and the behavior that necessary follows from such things. Thank you. ... more   less
