They cancelled our booking on the day we arrived. Thankfully we tried to check in at 4pm so when we got there we had the time to find somewhere else but it could have been a nightmare if we had got there later. If you decide to book make sure you go with hostelworld/booking.com so if they cancel they are liable. I tried to book directly with the company themselves as I prefer to save the hostel the commission they pay to these websites but it is a lesson learned. I did try to put a deposit down to secure the booking but was told no, presumably so they can cancel my booking with no notice and charge a higher rate to someone else. Not a great experience but quite glad in the end - managed to find another room for the same price in a nicer part of town

No doubt the best hostel I have ever been to. Great facilities including a huge kitchen, clean bathrooms and friendly staff. We stayed in one of the off site rooms which is about a 5 minute walk down the road. The room was very large, clean, and had facilities just as good as the main site. I would 100% recommend for anyone staying in Sofia.

Fantastic hostel. The staff are all very kind and also chill. Great social aspects and met awesome people while there. The one downside is the no noise past 10pm policy, but the staff are very good at recommending spots to go out and be social as a great alternative. 100% recommend anybody who visits Sofia to stay here

The staff took care of a problem i adressed. They are very willing to listen and therefor created a safe space for their customers. The sharing area is very nice and makes it easy to meet new people. I was there as a solo traveller and i highly valued their area and the location.

The volunteers in this hostel ruin the place as they only mostly hire men. Some of them are quite arrogant and pretentious and ruin the whole vibe of the hostel. They also take up the beds when they could be selling them for extra money. I have a problem with hostels that are just mostly volunteers because they are all clicky, try to hit on any girl that walks in the door, and treat the male guests like crap. At night, it is mostly 80-90% men and there are fights almost every night here so watch out. There are also a lot of alcoholics so the volunteers pay for alcohol and it just breeds a toxic environment. Do yourself a favor and go to the ivory towers hostel instead because they keep the work in the family and there is less toxicity. The manager is nice but he needs to understand that these volunteers he constantly brings on are super super toxic. I hope they change this dynamic in the future for it creates a very uneasy vibe overall.…

good: staff is very responsive via Booking.com messaging and WhatsApp. provided clear check in instructions with Google map links and pictures. was also helpful in providing information on the city in general, e.g. taxi/attractions/food/ATM/supermarket. I checked the reviews before reserving a room, and I think a lot of the negative feedback was due to unreasonably high expectations - if you're booking a private room from a hostel, you can't expect it to be on par as a room in a four star hotel. you get what you paid for. the shower is right next to the toilet without a curtain, yes, and towels are not regular size bath towels, yes, there is not much free space in the room, yes, but again, just be prepared. the website clearly states that the private rooms are located in a different building from the reception and you'll have to walk there. read it instead of complaining afterwards people. not so good: it was 20+ minutes walking to the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, where a lot of the popular day trip from Sofia leaves from. if you're trying to call a cab via app (like TaxiMe), they can come to a different street than the one you're actually on since the app senses that your location is in between streets (I had to walk around the whole block to find my taxi, which was confusing when you're not familiar with the roads/area.) …

The place is awfully dirty and everything is full of stains and sticky. The bathroom and toilet conditions are very poor without any proper facilities (as hangers and shells to put staff). It was disgusting to use and not hygienic at all. I think that common places (especially hostels, especially during coronavirus times, should pay hyper attention to hygiene and safety protection. But also try to make comfortable conditions to stay. The place stinks with cigarette smoke and overall I didn't have a nice experience.

One of the best hostels I've stayed at! I go between being an introvert and extrovert when I travel and this hostel offered the best of both- it's large enough that you can be solo and incognito yet if you want to be social they have lots of activities and daily dinners. This hostel had a wonderful, diverse group of travels of all ages and backgrounds so it was easy to go to dinner and strike up a conversation over hearty food and plenty of alcohol. Rooms were comfortable and warm, staff was helpful and friendly. Good location for bars, restaurants, public transportation and walking tours. I walked from the main bus terminal and it was a pleasant 30/45 minute walk.

We arrived with a friend and get to the lovely reception in the shared room where every guest can stay, chill and cook in the well equipped kitchen. There are some parties going on in the evenings and you can feel the real familiar mood here. Totally worth it, it makes your Sofia trip even more authenthic!
