Rude staff, Dull dated and dirty rooms (available by the hour with or without an 'extra pillow') lobby full of ladies with clients and security staff for the dodgy casino and pawn shop attached to the hotel. Do not check into this hotel - although they didnt seem surprised that I didnt want to stay after seeing my room. The... more
Just came back from Sofia on business, and had to stay at the Rodina Hotel as this was organised for me. This was a really poor hotel, only the rooms on floor 8 and 9 have been renovated and are actually worth 3 stars Western standards. I was on 12th floor, "deluxe" room which made me wonder what the standard... more
The previous reviewers are much too kind. This place is positively awful in nearly every respect. I was given a room that the hotel desk claimed was a "luxury" room that was "renovated." If it was renovated then it was done more than 20 years ago. The room was more than dated. The carpet was absolutely filthy (I moved the... more
We 2 couples stayed there for 3 days of sightseeing. The hotel is a bit dated and the rooms on the small side but was clean and the staff, for the most part, were friendly and helpful. The included breakfast buffet, set in a dated but fancy Eastern block ballroom, had a good selection and was reasonably good (one can... more
I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions and have to say the service, staff, food are all very good. When they say 20 minutes, you get it in 20 minutes, this applies to anything you request. Rooms are cleaned daily, fresh towels, bedding etc, very impressed. Be wary of the taxi drivers in Sofia, make sure their meters... more
I stayed on the 9th floor for one night whilst on a business trip. We booked the hotel ourselves looking for something reasonably cheap near the centre of Sofia, although it's still a good 5 to 10 min taxi ride to the centre. It's pretty run down and very "soviet era" with a 70s look and feel thoughout. I had... more
Only hotel I have stayed at in Sofia so far. Have been there many tmes and each time it has gotten worse. From cold room in the winter and hot rooms in the summer. Beds are older than I am. TV was not worth having, nothing English but MTV and CNN. Guess if your from Germany it would be OK.... more
The Rodina was great. I stayed in my own room, but traveled with friends and they had the same opinion. We walked left to the intersection and found a great little coffee place with croissants for breakfast. It was cheap (we didn't care much for the hotel restaurant only because we wanted to get out and see the city). The... more
We were quite satisfied with our room on the sixteenth floor which had a spectacular view over the city. There was also a mini-fridge, TV and the bathroom was spacious. Furthermore there was an abundant supply of shampoos, soaps, dental and shaving kits, plus a hairdryer. The only disappointing thing about the hotel was the breakfast room on the first... more
