Considering this is DPRK, this only is not too bad. Electricity and hot water works. TV works although only with BBC World western channel and few Chinese, Russian and North Korean Channels. Bring your own towels as the one provided are really small...... more

Hi, If you go to North Korea, you have little choice regarding hotels. This one looks very modern from the outside; but inside it is not very well maintained. My room had a marvelous view of the city and it allowed me to take nice pictures. The bath towels are very small but there is plenty of hot water. You... more

If you're going to Pyongyang, it's not as if you are going to be choosing from a vast array of hotels. In fact, you probably won't be choosing at all. You'll get put here or at the Koryo Hotel. The hotel is just OK, but before complaining one should remember that the level of comfort is certainly higher than many... more

I stayed here in August 2008. Many tourists staying there are from China. I noticed a few from Japan, some from Europe, and another 3-4 from Hong Kong. The room is just ok. Nothing special to talk about. But the view from my room is great. I could have a good view of the city across the river. I was... more

If you get the Koryo hotel, good luck. It may be nicer but I'm told there isn't much to do. The big advantage of the Yanggakdo Hotel is there is LOT'S to do. Heck, I won $57 in the drab Stanley Ho run casino in the basement. Also in the basement is a billiards room, ping pong, 2 lane bowling... more

As other reviewers have mentioned you are not going to be able to 'choose' to stay here or any other hotel in Pyongyang is you are visiting the DPRK for tourism purposes. The decision is made for you by the Korean Travel Company (aka government) as is every other facet of your trip to the DPRK. This lack of choice... more

You look out the window of this hotel up the river and across the skyline of Pyongyang and shake your head in disbelieve that you are in North Korea, a place like no other on earth. It is as if the original inhabitants of the city had left and some alien species had taken over the city. Everything about this... more

Reviewing North Korean hotels is probably not that relevant - you'll not have a choice on where to stay anyway. If you do end up at the Yanggakdo Hotel, you can be assured that you've arrived at one of the 2 four style premises in the country (the other being Koryo Hotel). Solid, average four star quality, similar to a... more

Not that you will have a choice. If you are in Pyongyang, you will most likely be on a tour, in which case you will be put in either the Koryo Hotel or in Yanggakdo Hotel. There are really no complaints. The hotel is huge and there were very few guests when we were there. The restaurant serves a good... more

It’s not as though you will be given a choice of hotels when you visit P'yŏngyang — you’ll almost certainly be either in this hotel on an island in the river, or in the Koryo Hotel, which is in the city centre near the main railway station. The first time I stayed in P'yŏngyang, in November 1996, I was in... more
