Nuku Hiva is one of the islands which remained somewhat and largely virgin. It is clean and the roads are good compared with the other in Marquesas. Exceptional landscapes and the locals focus on keeping their historical and cultural heritage. The population is mostly Maori, so the culture it belongs to they almost entirely. Ms. Nathalie Volle is a General... More

The Pearl Lodge bungalows are the best accommodations on the island. The views are spectacular, 260 degree views from the bungalows of various bays. During the day, you can hire a boat to various locations, including to the beach that leads to a hike to Vaiipo Falls, and the other direction to where a Survivor season was once filmed. The... The pay-off for our climb up to the highest of the cabins (#16) was a superb view of the bay. We enjoyed enormously our 7 days stay, which we did half-board. The amenities in the cabin were rustic lux, i.e., quite comfortable considering one is not in a place with ready access to all luxuries. As the temperature was quite... More

The Marquesas are beautiful remote islands and are well worth the visit. The hotel is lovely with the rooms dotted over the hillside. The food was good (excellent melting chocolate puddings) but the cocktails were terrible (they had no idea how to make them). We asked to sign-off the meals each night, but they were all too laid back to... More

My husband and I were gone for 5 weeks to celebrate our 32nd anniversary, first in Japan and then 2 weeks in Bora Bora, the Tuomotus , and the Marquesas. We loved Nuka Hiva and wish we had spent 4 nights here and only 2 in Hiva Oa there was more to do in Nuka Hiva and Taiohe town is... More

My wife and I began our 20 year anniversary celebration at this spot. We continued on to Moorea and Bora Bora, staying a week in each location. The Marquesas Islands are beautiful, quiet and isolated. If you are looking for beach time, this is NOT the place...they are really small & not so sandy. But if you are looking for... More

For those who want a South Seas alternative to a bungalow over the water, try the Pearl Lodge in Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands. The tours are what makes this place special: the lush valley where Herman Melville was inspired to write "Typee" or the idyllic bay that charmed Robert Louis Stevenson. And you won't find finer accommodations in Nuku Hiva... More

Very nice place with fantastic view of the bay. People are very nice and friendly. Nathalie, the hotel manager is very friendly and talks to everybody. Makes the guests feel very at home. However, the service at the restaurant wss very slow. It took us more than hour to have our meal got served one evening. And there is always... More

Lovely hotel on slope overlooking the bay. Rooms large and attractive in local style. A large and spacious balcony. Food is of a good quality if a little pricey. Pool is small but at least it is cooling and pleasant to sit by. Well kept gardens with tropical flowers. Not many guests. Reception staff very helpful and accommodating. Only place... More
