This is a really classic city hotel. Having stayed in plenty of hostel and dodgy two star hotels it was nice to have some old school charm and style. The bed was really comfortable with a really hot shower and good heating. The staff were very helpful and always around for any query. The location is excellent with lots of... More

Quaint, old-fashioned hotel in the heart of Ciudade Vieja. The rooms are small and crammed with 'antique' furnitur e, but since it was winter, everything felt cozy. The bed was comfortable and the wi-fi worked perfectly fine. The biggest negative was the bathroom. It had a stained bathtub and a padded toilet seat that never seemed quite clean. It also... More

You won't find a nicer host in Montevideo than the people that take care of this hotel. The rooms are cozy and most of them have a balcony. My bath leaked a bit but was OK. The only thing was that they provided no breakfast, and stuff like soap or shampoo (more of a hostel that way) but there are... More

My bathroom could've been Victorian style props but was actually real and while idiosyncratic (a drained bath reappears through the floor drain!) it was welcome too especially as a) I am usually too tall for baths but not this antique beauty and b) it was the hottest water of the whole trip. Add to that lovely ladies running the desk... More

Stayed for two nights. The room was cosy but contained everything we needed. Its also had an amazing balcony with great views in every direction. The lift is old fashioned but very cool. The location is great with a lot of bars and restaurants on the next block. Would definitely come back and recommend it to family and friends.

Stayed there a couple of times recently, found it as pleasant as allways. Since rooms are usually furnished 3/4 being items of style of 1900-1930s era and 1/4 being modest more recent additions, would be great if they once go to antique auctions and replace those more recent furnitures with older ones. Anyway rooms are charming the way they are.... More

We arrived at 5 in the morning and the lady at the front desk gave us a room to rest until our regular room was ready around noon. That was our welcome at this wonderful old place, and our stay of 12 days were no less well attended by the great staff. The location was just right for us, with... More

Nice value, great location and a friendly staff are the highlights of Hotel Palacio. The rooms are pretty basic but there was a little fridge and the coolest old style elevator! Worth the stay if you are looking for a moderate place to stay.

Hotel Palacio is nothing grand, but it is reasonable value for money. The location is excellent - right next to Plaza Independencia; one of the main squares in Montevideo. The staff do not speak English, so have a little Spanish to hand. They will provide you with a map of Montevideo and will happily help you with any questions you... More

Rooms are spotlessly clean and good sized, if dated (though 1940s/1950s dated, not 80s/90s).  Spiral staircase from ground to top floor surrounds a beautiful, wrought iron, open lift, which the staff seem to be constantly cleaning and polishing.  Staff are friendly and helpful, but speak little or no English, though will nonetheless enthusiastically give restaurant tips and advice on where...
