We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Palacio, located just steps away from the main plazas, museums and the Teatro Solis. It's situated in a beautiful building with big, clean rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful in orientating us and helping us figure out our way to the airport via the public bus.

You feel like hundred years ago. Elevator, furniture, bathroom everything is like a museum. Of course you can get more comfirt in some newer hotel but Montevideo is famour for the past and here you are living in the past. Most of the staff are retired people but friendly and smiling. Olga is definitely the best

This is one of the old-school type of hotel that is too rapidly disappearing. Being an old dame, it had quite a bit of patching and some quirkiness, but this was also part of the charm. If anything, aircon would have been nice during the wrmer days. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location perfect where the... More

Not sure what vintage but the perfect place to explore the Old City. We stayed in room 67 which was great. Has a large balcony, table & chairs..........great for drying clothes or just relax and take in the immediate city view or down to the Port. Large bathroom with bidet, toilet and shower. Fridge, wardrobe, dressing table and chairs, heater... More

This hotel has an excellent location. In the old town, near the lively Plaza Constitucion, but very close to beginning of the new town in Plaza Independencia. The hotel has a charming old-world feel, including an elevator with a manual two-door system. The staff is super friendly and helpful. See my comments regarding room choice. I have one suggestion for... More

Stayed at Hotel Palacio in Montevideo for 2 nights in October and could not wait to leave. On arrival at hotel we were given city map which highlighted what was considered to be the safe area of the city....which was only a tiny area 2 blocks by about 10 blocks! I found the city centre to be very dirty with... More

This is an old place that hasn't been renovated but it has been freshened up without losing its charm. LIKES-love, love, love the old elevator with accordion doors, even though it didn't work one night and I had to walk upstairs (6 floors!). The people are very friendly, the building is an elegant old place, the location is right in... More

Unbeatable value and a fantastic location in the heart of the old town (a minute's stroll from the Teatro Solis). Our room was spotless, the bed very comfortable, the shower piping hot and a tiny balcony to top it off. Cable TV and excellent wi-fi in the room. The staff were terrific and the manager delighted in taking us onto... More

Cool old hotel at a good price (not much more then a hostel). Really nice man gave us a map and showed us to our room and explained everything. Nice little balcony. Good sized room and bathroom. Clean room in a good central location.

We spent 2 nights here and found it be good choice. Like pervious posts described it's a mix of old and new, The bed is very comfortable and does not sag like lonely planet reports. Everything worked and plenty of hot water. The front desk folks are very nice and helpful. No English was spoken. The only con would be... More
