This hotel is in a great location in central Montevideo but be aware it is cheap and likely because it has not been renovated in quite some time The room carpet was a bit nasty with a stain we avoided but the bed was clean as was the washroom. It is a simple place to stay but not for those... More

Dont get turned off by the slightly run down exterior or lobby. Yes, the management really needs to spend a bit of money changing rugs, painting walls in the lobby and hallways. But if you can deal with this, I think that you will enjoy your time at this place. We spent two nights there and thought it was a... More

I booked a room for a night at the Austral through hotel.com and when I arrived they could not find my reservation. They later on said my reservation was at the Lancaster which was just a block away. The room was terrible. It has not been painted in years and there were holes in the walls. The room was dirty... More

Of the approximately 100 hotel reviews, I have done on Trip Advisor, this is the first time I have issued this advice. My own fault - I ignored the older reviews and took the recent good review as a sign things had changed. Lobby carpet was filthy. The classic room we had booked online was "unavailable", so were given a... More

I spent over 2 weeks at the Lancaster Hotel in May this year. I had a back room in the 7th floor, no noise and it was clean, towels replaced everyday if requested, the shower was great, and the breakfast run from 7.00am to 11.00am and offered an assortment of breads, cheeses, a diversity of cold meat, jams, local pattiesserie,... Bathroom was ugly and not properly cleaned. Room was ugly, but not in the extremely dirty end. TV was small. Decoration... do they even know that we are not in 1940? Breakfast options... well... I cannot eat wheat, and the options where bread and wheat cereal, so I had to ho with OJ and fruit jam alone, which weren't great... More

I had no choice but to stay at this hotel for 2 nights as the tour company booked it. Just believe all the negative comments. It is terrible. Worst than I could imagine! Don't let the lobby fool you. The rooms are the 60s without any maintenance. Just awful

The place looked okay on the outside and situated in a beautiful square, but once inside it wasn't great. When I got the room key from the desk clerk he warned me not to jump....wasn't sure why until I got to the room. The room was dirty, bathroom was old with poor plumbing and the window with a beautiful view... More

After reading recent reviews, I can't believe it was the same hotel. I stayed in 3 different rooms and found them all clean and comfortable. The ones on the plaza side have great views and the back side is very quiet. The wifi works, the breakfasts are great--constant refreshing and super coffee. The front desk staff are knowledgeable, speak English... More

The place is very good because it is central in the historic area. However there are other options a little bit far but in a neighborhood more nice and developed, like POCITOS for example. The service is the only thing good - i mean the breakfast and the staff. The room was dirty, no cleaning and the courtains did not... More
