This small, upscale lodge is literally 100 feet from the entrance to Machu Picchu National Park, in Peru. The convenience of this location for senior travelers can not be over stated. The rooms are small, clean and well appointed. Our guide mentioned to the staff that we were there on our 45th anniversary, and the staff presented us with a... More

I stayed for two nights (early bird discount) with a friend at the end of November 2014. It was an all-inclusive package so all meals, drinks (excluding premium wines etc) were included as well as mini bar contents, laundry service. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff - everyone from concierges, restaurants staff, laundry. Each and everyone did their... More

We stayed at the Sanctuary Lodge in September. It is literally steps from the entrance of the park. We had 2 rooms one was a standard and the other was a deluxe. There is not enough difference between them to make it worth paying any more for the deluxe. The hotel is nice and the staff is outstanding everything is... More

I read some reviews of the Sanctuary Lodge that assume because it cost a small fortune, that it should be the greatest hotel they have every seen. This is an unrealistic expectation. It has a monopoly because of its location, and is full most of the time because of that. Given that, it is much better than I might have... More

There's really no choice of where to stay if you want the convenience of seeing Machu Picchu all day long and catching the sunrise without having to get up that early. The bus ride from Aguas Calientes (where the other hotels are located) takes a good 30 minutes and costs US$19 round trip. The room at the lodge is quite... More

Might be the greatest hotel there, but they have no heart. We had to cancel our pre-paid stay because of a terrible family tragedy that necessitated our flying home immediately (spend 30 hours getting home, which is how desperate we were), but they refused to refund one penny. I call that heartless.

We stayed at the Belmond Sanctuary Hotel, after five days and four nights of hiking and camping. The hotel is expensive, but their location is incredible -- it was a real pleasure to arrive at this lovely little hotel nestled in the trees right around the front entrance gate to Machu Picchu. The beds are comfortable with great sheets, wonderful... More

The excellent service in addition to the location provides us the chance to visit Machu Picchu within the short time that we had. Because it is within the National Park, there are of course many restrictions as to the amount of amenities ( room size etc) it can have. But that does not detract the overall beauty and extras (orchid... More

We are booked for two nights at The Sanctuary. As mentioned convenient location, courteous and attentive staff, good food. Nothing like Monasterio however. We checked in on a Sunday and it was made very clear check out time on Tuesday was 11am. Fair enough. Oh yes also the hot tub is not working. Sorry. Monday morning we went for a... More

This hotel is located right by the Machu Picchu entrance gate and it is only valuable in that regard! The rooms are small and it did not worth the money at all. If you are a physically able individual who does not mind taking the 20 minute bus ride, stay someplace else and save the money! staff were helpful and... More
