Spent two nights at the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu. The rooms are fine but don’t expect anything luxurious. The attached photos sum up the extent of the room. Small but functional with everything you need. The bathrooms could use some sprucing up but they too were fine. The place is very expensive and it is definitely a lodge; but... More

This was an excellent stay in a beautiful setting. It was worth the expense spending the night here. Waking up to the sun rising over Machu Picchu was an amazing event. Food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to provide excellent service. They even remembered my birthday which was amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed the stay! Thank... More

The minute you step in the Lodge you feel as if you have stepped into a little Oasis. Outside there is the hustle and bustle of hundreds who are dropped by the buses and who are waiting to get to the entrance or waiting to get back on the buses to Aguas Calientes - Inside, it is peaceful and serene... I was planning our short Inka Trail trek into Machu Piccu and my traveling partner suggested after we finished our trek that we stay for several days at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge at the entrance to the Machu Piccu park. She wanted to be able to wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and just enjoy the... More

We just had the trip of a lifetime at Machu Picchu and the Sanctuary Lodge. Staying next to the entrance allowed us to rest a little after lunch and spend the afternoon at the site. The light at 4:00 is great and it's incredible to get pictures at the end of the day without people. Got up early the next... More

This hotel is magnificent! It truly embodies luxury. Stay There! The staff makes you feel special, the decor is unbelievable. The artwork is outstanding. It even retains the chapel as part of the hotel. Again, Stay There!

We stayed at the Sanctuary Lodge the night before we visited Machu Picchu. From the moment we arrived we were treated as friends. We arrived at 3pm and and having not had anything to eat since 6am asked about food service. They arranged a table in the restaurant whilst our bags were taken to our room. After our lunch we... If 15th-century Inca site Machu Picchu is on your bucket list, I highly recommend that you do it right and stay at this intimate place, which is the original site of the farm upon which Hiram Bingham stumbled when he "discovered" Machu Picchu. Belmond Sanctuary Lodge -- formerly known as The Orient Express Sanctuary Lodge -- is within a stone's-throw... More

The TripAdvisor reviews of the hotel are very accurate so I will only add a few notes. 1) Be sure to find the somewhat hidden hot tub with views of Huayna Picchu and a phone for handy pisco sour delivery (drinks are included with your stay). 2) Despite some confusion in the reviews, as a guest you do NOT have... Our trip to Machu Picchu was made immeasurably more enjoyable by staying at the Sanctuary Lodge. The rooms were great, with a lovely terrace looking over the mountains, and set amidst beautiful gardens. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. The Andean music at dinner brought the whole experience together. And, being right outside the entrance to the ruins, we made it... More
