I was reluctant to pay the extra amount for this hotel but have to admit it was well worth the entire amount. Staff were extremely professional. facility is average given the location but wherever possible the go the extra mile. The all inclusive is really all inclusive with excellent meals, wine list, drinks, after hour educational activities (slide show, Pisco... More

The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is pricey and not up to par with other Belmond properties, but it has the perfect location for visiting Machu Picchu. My adult kids and I hiked the Inca Trail for 4 days, camping along the way. We were all thrilled for a shower and a real bed, so our expectations were simple. The hotel itself... More

I have done the complete Orient Express experience on my trip to Peru. From Lima, Valle Sagrado, Machu Pichu and Cuzco. The location of the Sanctuary Lodge could not be better. It is the only hotel on top of the mountain who gives you access to the ruins of Machu Pichu. I literally was the first to enter the ruins... More

Didn't want to take 2 3 hour train rides and 2 bumpy bus rides, so chose to stay up top at the Sanctuary Lodge. Nice place. Again, it's your only choice at Machu Picchu, and the real estate is limited, so you live with the compromises. First off, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The lobby is cozy, but... More

The sanctuary lodge is managed by Belmond hotels but has not much in common. The rooms are small and in need of renovation. Looking in a common garden which is shared by all other garden view rooms and offering only limited privacy, especially when children from other rooms are using the integrated "private" terasses as playground. The hotel webpage is... More

We decided to spend extra $ and booked 2-nights at this expensive hotel because (other than its KEY location factor), my husband and I were finally being able to find availability for 2-consecutive nights for a special (non-refundable) deal with Expedia for an all-inclusive package. We read reviews about issues with construction & street noise, A/C not working, poor/slow service... More

We knew when planning our Peruvian adventure that there was no way we were going to Machu Picchu and missing out on staying at Sanctuary Lodge. We knew it was expensive. We knew the rooms were small. We read that the rooms were not the best anyone has seen. That's not really the point. It is wonderful to be adjacent... More

The location of this hotel is incomparable. Machu Picchu is a wonder and this hotel is immediately next to it. The 32 room hotel is similar to a Motel 6 with a tiny lobby which is always congregated by day trippers from all over the world. The service is very friendly and the (all inclusive)hotel restaurant food is good especially... More

This June we had the great opportunity of visiting Machu Pichu and we were thrilled we were going to stay at Sanctuary and enjoy the site with a little more intimacy. As others have said, the location next to the entrance to Machu Picchu is this hotels best feature meaning no queuing up to catch the bus down to the town, however that's not all that's good - the service from every member of staff we encountered was exceptional. The room we had was comfortable just a few steps away from... More
