While not of the same calibre as other Belmond properties, this hotel sells itself on location. Appreciate that before you get there and you won't be disappointed. For what the property lacks in amenities it makes up for it in: i) being a 90 second walk to the gate at MP, and ii) the superb quality of the staff.

This comfortable hotel with excellent food and service, along with lovely gardens and an outdoor hot tub overlooking the Andes Mountains, is literally right next to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Reserve well in advance and then savor where you are!!!

After a warm, long day among the ruins, we ere welcomed by Omar, who proceeded to take care of all check in details as we relaxed in the lounge. His welcoming manner and obvious pride in shoeing us the special parts of the hotel, especially the garden. At dinner, our waiter Frank, was knowledgable and very helpful with menu suggestions.... Once in a lifetime destination and worth every penny! I arrived at Machu Picchu by the Hiram Bingham train travelling through spectacular scenery being wined and dined along the way. The staff at Sanctuary lodge greet you personally on arrival with a welcome drink in the bar lounge while they take care of all your checkin details. They personally show... More

For a place that has 'no competition,' the lodge delivers excellent service, nice, comfy rooms and very good food. And the staff is INCREDIBLE here -- especially ALEX in the restaurant & bar area! The rooms are well-appointed, with modern fixtures and plenty of comforts, and their evening turndown service with a 'lighted candle' is a nice treat! Their 'day... More

It was a huge splurge for us to pay the amount we did to stay at the Sanctuary Lodge. However our total experience at the lodge was outstanding. Waking up and being the first in line when the gates opened at Machu Picchu made it all worth the expense. A few friends that have been to Machu Picchu before said... More

The reason why it's worth paying an excessive, all inclusive rate at the Sanctuary Machu Picchu is because it is right beside the gates to MP. The location is perfect and so convenient all day long! It is especially wonderful late in the afternoon when the crowds have left and you can sit peaceful inside Machu Picchu and enjoy the... More

This whole experience staying at the Sanctuary Lodge was way beyond our expectations! Wow!! It was absolutely wonderful! We loved everything about it! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay! We had 4 meals at the lodge-breakfast, lunch, dinner and a sandwich for lunch on our second day right before we left. All the food was fantastic!

A lovely hotel with wonderful amenities but wildly expensive. The access to Machu Picchu is great and makes the stay here worthwhile. Group Peru, who arranged our trip was able to get very favorable pricing at the hotel.

The location is easily worth 5 stars. The service and rooms bring it down to 3 stars. After spending four days on the Inca Trail, we were excited to be staying at the Sanctuary Lodge. Unfortunately, the lack of professional service made our group feel more like second class citizens.
