This is a spruced up but otherwise very ordinary 1960's era motel that happens to be just a few feet from the entry to Machu Picchu - the only hotel there. Everybody else who stays overnight has to take a bumpy 25 minute bus ride down to Aguas Calientes and will have problems staying late at Machu Picchu or getting... More

My friend and I had a memorable time staying at the Sanctuary Lodge during our 2 days 1 night trip in late Sep 14. We had a room with a patio. The room though small was comfortable, and the welcome fruit basket and variety of drinks and snacks in the minibar were welcome surprises! The Lodge location is excellent! We... More

a well organised and comfortable lodge at the gate to Machu Picchu, what more could you ask? They have this just right. Very comfortable rooms, good food and smiling attentive staff. On top of this, there is afternoon tea, a comprehensive buffet just like breakfast, pisco sour demonstrations and a 2 minute walk to the entrance .

This hotel is not glamorous. In some senses, it's a fancy motel. But it's right at the entry to Machu Picchu, which is priceless, and the staff are fantastic. The food at the restaurant is also good, and the grounds are nicely maintained, with a hot tub, orchid garden and a 'day room' structure that you can use to freshen... More

As everyone has said, the reason to stay here is the location. We stayed here 2 nights and were happy to be able to enter macchu pichu early without being on the bus with the throngs of people and to stay a bit longer in the park once most had gone home. The increased access to the park and ability... More

We stayed one night recently. We were treated by name by the staff from the time we checked in and felt the service was excellent. We had a room with a patio looking over the mountain. The room was clean, and fairly plain. The bathroom was small with only a shower. After hiking on the mountain we were disappointed to... More

The Sanctuary Lodge Hotel is the only hotel located on property at Machu Picchu. Most of us understand what happens when a supplier has a monopoly, price goes up and service goes down. Unfortunately this is the case with The Sanctuary. The quality of the rooms varies widely. Some rooms have a small private deck, ours overlooked the bus station... More

Hotel has a quick turn around for its guests so restaurant and bar service is polite but not to friendly. Food ok. Location is great!!! Check in staff is friendly, and very helpful. So great to be able to stay just foot steps away from the front entrance in the morning. Last bus leaves at 4:30pm from site, so can... More

Great surprise ! Thought food and service would be mediocre or not very good and it was excellent! The jacuzzi facing Guaynapicchu is surreal! Worth paying considering conveniences and food! Rooms could be better, specially the bathrooms.

Machu Picchu was the highlight of my Peru trip and I don't think I could have enjoyed it as much as I did had I not stayed at the Sanctuary Lodge overnight. The absolute key thing about staying here is the access you have to Machu Picchu - you get to enjoy it before the crowds arrive and after they... More
