Lovely courtyard so first impressions are very good. Very few staff speak English, so we had difficulty getting what we needed, however when they did understand, they were very obliging. Room was quite small but adequate; double means double (not queen) so bed felt small, especially since floor sloped causing you to roll to one side. Hot water 24/7 not... more

Don't get me wrong, it's not like there's anything wrong with this hotel. The beds are comfortable, there is hot water, and breakfast is alright. However, for the amount we paid we expected a higher class of hotel. Very noisy - we were awoken before 7am each morning (however... this is probably just Cusco, not the hotel). The bathrooms aren't... more

Located opposite side of square from san blas - less touristy - 5 minute walk from square. Paid $70USD per night in July 2009. Was nice clean place. Nothing special, just a cut above backpacker-type hostel while retaining the PERUVIAN style which is what I was looking for. Beds were ok - little hard, rooms were small. Internet machine was... more

El Balcon is by no means a standard hotel. I have spent 4 nights here. It's more like a cozy home. All the staff are very friendly, even some of them don't speak English. The two rooms I stayed are clean and well decorated. Plenty of blankets so you won't feel cold. The little garden is delightful. There was a... more

We decided to stay at Hostal El Balcon based on the reviews we saw on TripAdvisor, and were not disappointed. Some things have changed since some of the earlier photos were posted on TA: the breakfast/dining room now has a glass enclosure that makes it feel more bright and open, and the landscaping is fuller and more mature. We stayed... more

Located a couple blocks from the main square, this is a charming hotel. It has a pretty courtyard with colourful parrots in the centre. The staff, although most of them don't speak English, were very friendly and helpful. Some of our group were suffering very badly from the altitude, and they went out of their way to help. We went... more

Great reception at the airport, efficient transfer to the hotel. Had room #1, the suite, with a second bed added to the room for my 14 yr old before we went trekking in the mountains. Balcony view was outstanding, hot water was great, great location, people could not be nicer, quiet respite and great place to "land in Cusco." Big... more

I agree with the favorable reviews of El Balcon. It is a charming property, with the advantage of good location near the main square and an excellent value. Rates included internet (24 hour), tea, breakfast, TV, and telephone. Really, an incredible deal at $25 cash in summer if booked direct. The staff as mentioned were truly friendly and helpful and... more

Stayed at this wonderful hotel for four nights. Loved everything about it, especially the most helpful front desk staff. The hotel is housed in a 400 y.o. building and an interesting collection of artifacts from the years past is exibited in the beautiful garden, in the dining room and the reception area. I would love to stay there again. more

We stayed at the El Balcon Hostal in Cusco for 5 nights in total, 4 before the Inca Trail, and returned for one night afterwards. Throughtout our stay, the staff were incredibly friendly and could not do enough for us. We had corresponded with Rosa for our booking, and she remembered us when we arrived. They came to pick us... more
