Hotel Monasterio is superb in every respect: the building, service, rooms and food. The building is exceptional: an old monestry, perfectly restored, with 2 beautiful courtyards and her own chapel, decorated in full ornate! Never seen something like it! Also the lobby is a great place to wait, read or drink something. The rooms are different from each other (we... more

We had an incredible holiday in Peru and the Galapagos Islands; our tour operator Douglas Stanford of Stanford Travel spent much time talking with us to get this trip and all its details just right! Our week in Peru began and ended with nights at Hotel Monasterio. As soon as walked into this gorgeous hotel for the first time and... more

We stayed at the Monasterio in April as part of a Lima/Cusco/Machu Picchu package we got from Peru Experiences - which is the travel company associated with all the Orient Express properties and Hiram Bingham train. Their services are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! They provided a great itinerary (similar to A&K or National Geographic) for a good price and their personal service... more

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your feedback. We are glad you had a wonderful experience with our tour operator. The reason why some of our rooms are a bit tight Hotel Monasterio remains into a national historical landmark, protected by the INC (National Institute of Culture) and has retained its original characteristics and charm. That is why the...

We stayed at this hotel, along with it's sister hotel in Machu Picchu, The Sanctuary, as part of their "Luxury Escapade" package. And "luxury" doesn't begin to cover it. We were picked up at the airport by Efrain Gamarra from Operations, along with a driver. We were pleasantly greeted, had our bags looked after, were escorted to the car and... more

Dear guest, I cannot be more delighted to read your comment. On behalf of all the staff at Hotel Monasterio I would like to thank you and we really hope you had fantastic memories from Cusco, its people, and its culture. I am glad you could also experience the shaman ceremony, which is one part of Cusco's culture and history....

This hotel has a great location, beautiful lobby, tranquil grounds, tiny out dated rooms, and a tremendous price tag. Of the 5 hotels my family and I stayed at during our trip to Peru this is my least favorite. It was also the most expensive. What I didn't like: the rooms are cramped and the bathrooms are minute. the service was... more

Simply the best hotel I have stayed in. Packed with character and charm. The rooms are lovely, especially after coming back from a tiring trek. The restaurant is excellant, and by UK standards the value is wondeful too. You always expect staff in hotels of this quality to be very professional, and are frequently disappointed. However, the Monasterio's employees were... more

Dang this place is cold; that was our first thought upon arriving in Cusco. The second thought was “hey where did all the oxygen go?” We first checked into the Hotel Monestario and immediately had some of the coca tea everyone keeps talking about in order to ameliorate the symptoms of altitude sickness. I wasn’t too sure how effective it... more

We stayed at this hotel in Feb., '09 and it is beautiful and the best spot to stay if money allows. However, we were not told upon check-in that breakfast was included in our $600 USD room rate. All though our agent may have told us this, a reminder would have been appreciated. The room we stayed in was a... more

The Monasterio is a beautiful, luxury hotel in a perfect location just off the Plaza De Armas. This was the 2nd Orient Express hotel we visited during our trip (see review of Hotel Das Cataratas) and I was very impressed with the way they convert and refurbish the buildings in a way that retains the spirit of the place. The... more

Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry about not including chocolates at the turndown time, for the moment this is a standarized procedure in the company. On the other hand, we appreciate your comments about our service and facilities. Cusco is indeed a lovely city and we are happy to be part of its history. Kind regards,...

Stayed at the Monasterio for 5(!) nights during a three week stay in Peru. Firstly, I would definitely say that staying 5 nights in Cusco is far too long (particularly if you have already visited the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu!). The Monasterio is a beautifully presented hotel and in a fantastic location for the main square of Cusco. The... more
