Once you've recovered from the climb up the stairs, which is only a bit tough due to altitude (but come on it's good training for Machu Picchu), you'll be at the door of the best situated hostel in town. The climb up to the hostel was very difficult, especially with big backpacks, and we knew we did not want to do these stairs every time we went to town (thinking about after the Inca Trail too). The owner of this hostel is so helpful and inviting. Rooms are good for price and shower was really nice and clean. Breakfast is excellent! We arrived at 4am and begged to have a room the receptionist found us some rooms to stay in very kindly. The name says it all with this place - very welcoming and friendly and the best included breakfast we had in South America! There is a lounge with tv and dvd player and huge selection of films to watch. Bit of a walk up some steps to get there but the views over Cuzco are lovely!

A hard place to get to - you need to climb lots of stairs from the last place where a taxi can get to - but the view of the whole city is worth the climb :) can also be treated as a little warm-up before inca trail ;) rooms ok, hot water without a problem, internet access and storage... More

This place is so inviting. We changed our hostel just to go here, even though those steps in the altitude are a bit intimidating, especially when you have a heavy backpack to carry. My girlfriends and I stayed here for 4 days before the Inca Trail. She got very sick due to altitude and the staff were concerned, friendly and helpful the whole time. Home Sweet Home in Cuzco, Peru was comfortable, had hot showers, and had a delicious breakfast included in the price (which was small compared to most other places).
