We stayed at the hostel for three nights in November, 2008. The street facade is not special, but when one enters the tall doors and courtyard, it is as if you are in a special world. The white sillar construction material is unique, as is the garden in the back, room with antique-type furniture, and history of the place. The... more

We have received a very warm welcome at Casona Solar. The place is an historical house of Arequipa wonderfully renovated and decorated. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The owner, Edith, is always ready to help and provide info. Don't hesitate if you want to stay there. more

My sister, boyfriend and I stayed at Casona Solar for 3 nights in August. We arrived early on the first day and we were able to have an inexpensive breakfast there, though it was not included for this day. The sillar (ashler stone) architecture was a good introduction to this material used all over Arequipa. The sunny courtyard at the... more

We recently (August 2008) stayed at the Casona Solar for three nights when visiting Arequipa. Unlike several of the other reviewers, our stay was less than optimal. We booked our room by Internet, communicating (Spanish only) with the delightful owners. We were asked our arrival details at the Arequipa bus station which we provided; a transfer from the station to... more

Seven of us stayed here for one night before and one night after our trip to Colca Canyon. Arriving after a very long bus night-long ride from Cusco, we were met by Edith who organized two cabs and we made our way through Arequipa traffic. Casona Solar looks deceptive from the outside...it's a relatively simple, but 18th century building...but you... more

The courtyard and gardens are beautiful, you feel like you're in a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of the street outside. The location is very convenient to all of the main city. The front entry/bell can be a little noisy if your room is located near that when folks are coming/going at night, but in general the hotel... more

As part of our arrangements for our recent visit to the Colca Canyon a local travel agent had booked this hotel for us. What a pleasant surprise! We stayed for 2 nights and and our only regret is that we could not stay longer. The center city location is perfect for exploring Arequipa but amazingly quiet considering the hustle and... more

Just returned from a short trip to Peru and spent 2 nights at the Casona Solar between a night visiting the Colca Canyon area. The Casona Solar is such an amazing place to stay - so beautiful and peaceful. It is a nearly 300 year old colonial house that has been purchased and renovated by a Dutch/Peruvian couple who make... more

I stayed here with my group of friends (9) during our stay in Arequipa and were delighted from the nice house, but specially for the service. The persons working here are so nice, very helpful. The hotel is very clean, very comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast at the terrace with the view to the volcanoes. The price was really good... more

For some reason we had a bit of trouble booking our stay in Arequipa. Other places either did not have the availability or did not respond. This was just lucky for us as we ended up staying at the Casona Solar, and have to say that without a doubt it was the best hostal we found in this price range... more
