Essentially a collection of colonial houses arranged as a hotel. Furniture is all antiques or replicas but the bathroom was new which made the antique room a real pleasure. We paid only $35 per room with breakfast; they accepted only cash. Location is great, opposite an American/Peru Cultural Cmeter and in midst of all the key attractions. A real find. more

Very enjoyable hotel with interesting and varied rooms in old-appearing building. Nice open patio for sitting around in the evening with a glass of wine. Location good and area tends to be quiet. $50 night--much higher than a few years ago. Gina at Andes Explorer Travel (just down the street) was excellent at arranging our travel to Colca Canyon, Puno... more

The hotel was really beautiful, it was rustic and the room we had was lovely with an arched ceiling and warm blankets. Location was pretty good, very central and very handy if you wanted to do laundry – you were surrounded by laundrettes! I agree with some of the reviews on the hotel that the staff were functional and efficient... more

In all fairness, we arrived at dusk. later, we realized the place looks better in bright sunlight, and in dark night when you can't see the lack of maintenance .The outside white stucco-looking facade had graffiti that was poorly painted over. is it deliberate? *I tried to take a photo but unfortunately the sun was not cooperating. the front of... more

This place is definitly about the unique opportunity to stay in an 18th century home. The architeture is great and the place has loads of character. The breakfast court yard is fabulous, great place to soak up some sun! The rooms were neat, but I would not say terrible clean. Our friends had trouble with their water and then on... more

We stayed here in May 2008. Indeed, like many others have said, the hotel is beautiful and charming, especially the courtyard. I made a reservation by email and the hotel staff who corresponded with me by email was very courteous and helpful when I changed my itinerary and needed to adjust the reservation. I would recommend the hotel with one... more

This has to be the best place to stay in Arequipa. Eclectic decor, beautiful gardens and colorful rooms that are stone-built the traditional way (making the room cold even when it is too hot outside! There are plenty of blankets though, so it is not a problem). Breakfast is served in a lovely courtyard overlooking the gardens. Try to organize... more

#1 PLACE IN PERU ! 18th Century Mansion Charming! AMAZING BREAKFAST! NOTHING TO SAY BUT THIS PLACE ROCKED MY WORLD! Pay a bit more for the bigger rooms or suites, it's worth it! Also, bargain the price a little if you can. No matter what , it's a great deal. I didn't want to leave! more

We stayed at La Casa de Melgar for one night before leaving early in the morning on our Colca Canyon tour. We found the hotel to be full of character - in the good way, not the real estate listing way. Our triple was a huge room with high ceilings that had its own fireplace, table and chairs, antique looking... more

We stayed for a total of 4 nights and enjoyed it very much: The interior design and architecture of the old casa is beautiful, pieceful and quiet. Staff was very friendly; Every room has a different atmosphere and style, we loved #204 with a small terrace; Safe baggage storage; Free wifi if you have your own laptop; Good breakfast with... more
