We stayed for a total of 5 nights, with a colca canyon trip in the middle. It really is great value. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful - on the last day they offered us a room to hang around in until our evening bus at no extra charge. The rooms are big and the bathrooms are good. Breakfast... More

The staff was extremely friendly and took extra measures to ensure our stay was comfortable. They provided great recommendations and always greeted us with a smile. We had rooms 101 and 102, close to the main entrance and was a little noisy from guests in the patio area, but I am not a light sleeper so the room was good.... More

It is a hotel. In Peru, the number of rooms determines what the establishment can call itself. Very clean, pleasant, centrally located. Decent breakfast. Will definitely stay there again. Arequipa is not a very exciting city. There is not much to do other than buy Alpaca products. The 'convent of Santa Catalina' is a must see. Take a lot of... More

We stayed at Santa Marta for about four days in June and can definitely recommend this. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and spacious and relatively quiet. It is in a great location with nice restaurants in the vicinity. I will certainly stay there again if I am in Arequipa.

This hostel provides huge rooms, beautiful terraces, laundry service, excellent breakfast services and staff. Rooms and bathrooms were well kept and always clean. The wifi signal was and connection was good for Peru. The hostel was about a 10 minute walk to the city centre and located across the street from a police station. Negatives - shower didn't always drain... More

Arequipa: Arequipa is a beautiful city, one of the most beautiful in Peru and definitely worth a visit even if you don't go to the Colca Canyon. There is the Monastario De Santa Catalina and Inca Museum with Juanita (The best preserved Inca sacrifice displayed from April - December with other mummified bodies replacing her January - March) and good... I booked my first night in Arequipa here, and just kept rolling my stay over for 6 days all up. They stored my backpack while I was in the canyon for 3 days. Want secure? It's across the street from the central police station. Close to plaza de atmas, santa catalina and the top of san francisco where there is... More

Compared to many hostels this is more like a hotel. We had to stay a bit longer in Arequipa than expected following a dog bite and checked in here for three nights so we could relax in comfort. It's really near the centre and good value for money, yet it wasn't busy when we stayed so when we asked for... More

We stayed in a triple room which was large and spacious and clean. Bathroom was a bit small, but had all the necessities which were clean and hot showers. Breakfast was fine - very simple with bread, juice, and tea. No eggs though. Staff were friendly. Location was great - just a few minutes walking to the central plaza. Lots... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Santa Marta Hotel is located in the center of Arequipa, four blocks from the main square, "Plaza de Armas." Arequipa is one of the principal cities in the south of Peru. The hotel provides its guests with superior, high quality service enhanced by the warm, welcoming hospitality of our staff. The colonial-era architecture of the hotel is remarkable with vaulted ceilings and walls. Ornamental friezes and cornices decorate the doorways and windows and magically transport our guests back to a more leisurely time. The building is constructed of white volcanic rock, commonly known as "sillar." ... more   less
