We stayed at the Hostal Macondo and were so pleased! This lovely decorated hostal also provided a wonderful breakfast where one could meet fellow travelers. Jenny who worked the reception desk could not have been nicer and attended to our every need. I would highly recommend the Hostal Macondo for short or long term stays. I look forward to returning!

I liked the location of this hostal for exploring El Centro. The common areas are visually appealing. There is an inside courtyard in the front surrounded by art. There is an outside courtyard in back near the kitchen that has a gazebo with plants. The ladies at the front desk were friendly and speak both English and Spanish. I asked... More

Hostal Macondo doesn't look all that impressive from the busy street and is priced at mid-range, but inside it's very comfortable, clean and well-run. The rooms at the front of the building that open into the inside courtyard look a little dark and dingy and the internet's not good, but the ones around the garden at the back are fine,... More

Wife and I stayed here back in 2012 (the site doesn't provide reviews going back that far in the date block). We felt comfortable with the security and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the back area and the inner courtyard. The rooms are much like any place in Ecuador, sound does carry, however, it wasn't that distracting or bothersome. Worth... More

The hotel is comfortable, beautiful, ideally located, the rooms are large and comfortable and look over a nice garden with a hammock. The complimentary breakfast is quite good too. The thing is we had problems with the hot water every morning, even though the staff were very helpful and always made sure that the problem be addressed. But asking every... More

Hostal Macondo was a very nice surprise! When you walk through the front door it's like entering another community . So different from the traffic and noise outside. We stayed in #7 suite in order to have a quiet area. Unfortunately another resident's or staff member's little dog barked a lot and was annoying. But that does seem to be... More

Very good location, helpful, English speaking staff. The rooms were quiet with comfortable beds. Self serve breakfast were fine with refills on coffee and staff did prepare eggs and juice with fruit cup. Kitchen is available for private use and the front desk has cold beer for sale. Safe and secure, it was very good value-around $35 and they accept... More

I've stayed at Macondo several times and it has always been very good and safe. The location is perfect, you can walk to many of Cuenca's main attractions (Parque Calderon, the cathedral, food market, hippie jewelry market, etc.) but it is quiet once you go in the hostal and relax in the courtyard. Staff is super helpful, rooms and bathrooms... More

This is a good place to stay in downtown Cuenca, close to everything. The garden is lovely where you can enjoy your breakfast. The garden rooms are the best and quiet. I'm thankful to the kind owner, Steven for helping me out in a bad situation and especially for the kindness of his partner taking care of me.
