I stayed in Casa San Rafael with my husband and daughter 3 nights in Sep 2014. The hotel is well maintained charming colonial building. Our room on the upper floor had no view of the city but no street noise either. The staff was very kind and helpful. Room was clean. Overall, this is a very good hotel, perfectly located:... More

We just again visited Casa San Rafael for the second time and will reconfirm this to be one of the "warmest" hotels we can imagine. Set in a beautiful villa in the historic center of Cuenca, you could not ask for a better location. The warmth is generated by the incredibly attentive family and staff that manage and run this... Everyone knows that the climate in Cuenca is cooler than in other places in Ecuador and we were aware of this when we chose to visit in August. However, we did not expect that there would be no heating at all in the hotel!!! Only choose to stay here in August if the idea of sleeping without heating in temperatures... More

I can't recommend this hotel simply because of the noise. If you are on a room that faces the street, you will feel every horn, every engine. An interior room feels every sound, very clearly, floating up from the reception and dining area. I don't think I'm an overly sensitive sleeper, but maybe others will perceive the noise differently. For... More

I've traveled a lot in Latin America and this was probably the nicest place I've ever stayed. You feel like you've been transported into a Spanish colonial mansion. Great location, beautiful hotel, great breakfast. The staff is also very helpful at setting up activities, such as a trip to the Inca ruins nearby (which is a must-do, by the way).

Rafael and his entire family made our stay the highlight of our Ecuador trip! Stayed for a week and by week's end they had pretty much adopted us as family. All the good stuff folks are saying on Tripadvisor is true !!

My friends and I spent 3 nights in Cuenca and were so glad we did so at Casa San Rafael. First off, this is not your typical modernized, chic and sterile hotel. There is a lot of character and charm to this hotel and it is also extremely well run and very clean. In addition, the staff is extremely knowledgeable,... More

Our 4-night stat at Casa San Rafael was truly wonderful. The entire family that runs this hotel is extremely attentive to all the details in comfort, cleanliness and helpfulness...very classy operation and staying there feels like staying with your very favorite aunt with, perhaps, a better breakfast than your aunt would make! :) We will gladly return at our earliest... We stayed 3 nights, our room was perfectly clean and functional with a rooftop view. It was a great location in Cuenca - easy walk to everywhere and safe in the evenings. The staff were just superb. They spoke great english and were so helpful - we felt like we were family. Thanks for a lovely stay
