The staff was wonderful at this hotel, the value was good and the included breakfast was fine. The wi-fi was a bit spotty, but generally fine. The only downside is that it is on a corner in the historical district and there was a fair amount of street noise (houses in Cuenca generally don't have air conditioning or heating because... More

We stayed in Casa San Rafael for 4 nights, of which the first in room 207, small, well-equipped but without windows. Luckily we could move to room 207 which has windows, and a balcony. We had a very nice and comfy stay, the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is absolutelybperfect. Everything... More

I think this is a good hotel, but I'm a little surprised it ranked so high among all the hotels in Cuenca. The room we had, 302, was quite small for two adults and two children. You may want to try to get one of the rooms on the second floor, because they have windows to the street. This room... More

I was amazed at the service and the coziness of the place. Everybody is so friendly and the owner in seconds becomes like a very old friend. He was so friendly and we would stay talking hours. The place takes you back 4 centuries to the colonial era. I highly recommend it!

I stayed in Casa San Rafael with my husband and daughter 3 nights in Sep 2014. The hotel is well maintained charming colonial building. Our room on the upper floor had no view of the city but no street noise either. The staff was very kind and helpful. Room was clean. Overall, this is a very good hotel, perfectly located:... More

We just again visited Casa San Rafael for the second time and will reconfirm this to be one of the "warmest" hotels we can imagine. Set in a beautiful villa in the historic center of Cuenca, you could not ask for a better location. The warmth is generated by the incredibly attentive family and staff that manage and run this... Everyone knows that the climate in Cuenca is cooler than in other places in Ecuador and we were aware of this when we chose to visit in August. However, we did not expect that there would be no heating at all in the hotel!!! Only choose to stay here in August if the idea of sleeping without heating in temperatures... More

I can't recommend this hotel simply because of the noise. If you are on a room that faces the street, you will feel every horn, every engine. An interior room feels every sound, very clearly, floating up from the reception and dining area. I don't think I'm an overly sensitive sleeper, but maybe others will perceive the noise differently. I've traveled a lot in Latin America and this was probably the nicest place I've ever stayed. You feel like you've been transported into a Spanish colonial mansion. Great location, beautiful hotel, great breakfast. The staff is also very helpful at setting up activities, such as a trip to the Inca ruins nearby (which is a must-do, by the way).

Rafael and his entire family made our stay the highlight of our Ecuador trip! Stayed for a week and by week's end they had pretty much adopted us as family. All the good stuff folks are saying on Tripadvisor is true !!
