This place is in the heart of La Mariscal--the multi-cultural bar, restaurant, club mecca. However, it is off on a side street so nice and quiet for sleeping. The room was clean, hot water HOT, and the overall house is beautiful. We came in at late hours and there was always someone at the door to let us in. Also,... More

One of the poorest hostels we stayed in during our six months travel. Staff was unhelpful and the man working gave us the feeling we were disrupting him in his own house. Next to that they wanted to charge us for lukewarm microwave heated tea. Showers were ok, beds not that comfortable. Only pros are cleanliness, location (but sufficient alternatives... More

The good: the location is great - in a quiet side street, but only a few blocks from one of the main plazas with restaurants, bars, clubs. Rooms and bathrooms are clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and it's cheap. The bad: quite easily the worst bed I've slept in during seven weeks of hostel travel around South America. The... More

I stayed at Casa Kanela for 2 nights. The owners were nice and helpful. Breakfast was included, which was eggs, fresh fruit and juice and tasty bread and jam. The rooms are plain, but clean. The showers were hot and I could get wifi in the room. It was on a quieter street in La Marsical.

Clean Rooms, Nice stuff, excellent location and mostly important: this is not a party hostel ; You can sleep in piece here. Only suggestion: it would be helpful if more information could be provided about Quito ( day trips etc) and Ecuador in general.

We stayed at Casa Kanela three nights in Dec 2013. At $25 per night for a room with private bath Casa Kanela offers good value. The rooms are spartan but clean. We stayed one night in a room on the first floor in the rear and two nights upstairs (we moved for a double bed instead of twins), the rooms... More

Spartan, clean with basic comfort. More reading lights and shower shelving would improve the rooms a lot. The location is charming - it's on a quiet, tree-lined street where birds sing throughout the day. It is only a few blocks from Plaza Foch in the Mariscal district, definitely the right neighborhood for the young and young at heart. Breakfast was... More

I stayed 6 nights, thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Located on quiet, charming street. Room was clean and quiet, good bed with good linens and sufficient blankets; shower with lots of hot water. Staff very helpful and honest. Owner spent time with me explaining sites to see and how to get there. Excellent breakfast including a different freshly squeezed fruit juice... More

The staff are lovely, the place is comfortable, but they could buy better towels, the ones we had would barely dry us because they were so thin. The hot water took ages to get hot and in the top room, in the evenings, it just stayed tepid. Breakfast was basic but okay.

Rooms are old, hot water Seems upon request. In an old House. wifi sometimes, electricity not from all contact points available (room 1). Had a nice breakfast included though. Friendly owner. Good location in Mariscal, not in a noisy street though.
