We stayed at Tandayapa Bird Lodge for 3 nights as part of a birding holiday in Ecuador. It essentially caters for the needs of fairly serious birders (which is what I am and my wife isn't); early mornings and early evenings. If you're looking for a great place for a social I'd look elsewhere but... if it's nature and birds... More

The patio is set up for all to enjoy the hummingbirds. Three feeders keep them coming from early morning until dark. We saw 15 kinds and 18 is the record. The lodge itself is fine. The bedrooms have nice windows to watch nature. There are private bathrooms and adequate hot water. Nice great room serves for dining and relaxing. The... More

What a wonderful hotel. They made arrangements for a car to pick us up in Quito and deliver us to their doorstep. Within minutes of arriving we saw at least 6 different species of hummingbirds. The hosts were great. The birding guide they had was also excellent. Food was included and was plentiful and delicious. I highly recommend a stay... More

I stayed here for 5 nights as part of a photographic group. The view from the deck was outstanding, lots of hummingbirds at the feeders and the low cloud circleing over the mountains. The rooms are along one corrider leading from the reception/ seating area. This means that anyone sitting talking at the seating area can be heard by the... More

This place is for the birds but in a good way - ok- it's for the birders, of which I am not - I accompanied friends who are and they were in hummingbird paradise. The accommodations are very basic and clean; food is good, staff great. We were there 3 nights. The cooks adjusted meals to provide non-dairy vegetarian fare... More

We just returned from Ecuador, and stayed at Tandayapa Bird Lodge 4 nights. We purchased a package that included meals, bird guide and driver as well as lodging - it was an outstanding trip and my wife and I believe it was good value too. The Lodge is very clean and comfortable, with plenty of hot water for bathing, and... More

Beautiful view, lots of colorful birds extremely friendly staff, the rooms however could use some improvements like hot water for washing up after the day. I might suggest some sort of ATV to transport luggage up the hill. I would recommend goods sturdy foot wear with traction for the climb up the narrow stairs to the lodge.

Miguel was our birding guide and he was wonderful. Smiling and friendly and a hard-worker and of course knew every bird and his enthusiasm was catching. Stallone was his side-kick and was also great in everyway as were the ladies who prepared the delicious meals. Miguel and Stallone worked long hard hours, changing hats constantly. A mud slide meant that... More

I was part of a film crew filming a wildlife documentary and we stay for 4 nights in early September 2014. The staff are incredibly helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable. The food is to a very high standard and all of the overall amenities are very good. The scenery and wildlife is incredible. This place is for true wildlife and bird... More

It was extremely hard to find, not signposted and unknown to "locals". By the time we found it it was cold and dark. Though the rooms looked ok there was no hot water. For the price we paid we could have stayed at the local Hilton. I did get to enjoy the birds though.
