Miguel was our birding guide and he was wonderful. Smiling and friendly and a hard-worker and of course knew every bird and his enthusiasm was catching. Stallone was his side-kick and was also great in everyway as were the ladies who prepared the delicious meals. Miguel and Stallone worked long hard hours, changing hats constantly. A mud slide meant that... More

I was part of a film crew filming a wildlife documentary and we stay for 4 nights in early September 2014. The staff are incredibly helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable. The food is to a very high standard and all of the overall amenities are very good. The scenery and wildlife is incredible. This place is for true wildlife and bird... More

It was extremely hard to find, not signposted and unknown to "locals". By the time we found it it was cold and dark. Though the rooms looked ok there was no hot water. For the price we paid we could have stayed at the local Hilton. I did get to enjoy the birds though.

Our room was clean and comfortable, as was the whole resort. The food was varied with a mixture of Ecuadorian and western dishes. We could not believe how many species and numbers of hummingbirds were there. We photographed about 18 species in our short time. Other birds and flowers also make this a great place for photographers. The resort is... More

This lodge is owned by Tropical birding, with whom we were doing a 3 1/2 week birding tour. We stayed here six nights. The lodge was some way from Quito but felt like another world. The entrance road was cobbled and a bit overgrown, which made a great entrance. From where the vehicles are parked there is a short but... More

We spent a week at Tandayapa Bird Lodge in early May, having had heard about it for years. The location is excellent and the property has wonderful feeders for hummingbirds, plus great trails for walking. We travelled on our own which made our birding slower, but information is good and resources are available for help with ID etc. Pablo does... More

We arrived to find several people sitting behind huge cameras with at least 2 flash guns on stands each and lenses that would double as drain pipes, taking fantastic pictures of humming birds on feeders. Each had 10's of thousands of pounds worth of equipment. My wife quickly hid her little panasonic(which takes great pics)! And I didn't get my... More

While we are not professional birders or photographers, we love experiencing nature and observing birds when the opportunity presents itself. While in Ecuador, we really wanted visit the cloud forest, and picked Tandayapa so we could be guided to see some birds too. The place is quite secluded, really calm and has comfortable rooms. Food is tasty, and the very... More

I spent 7 nights at this lodge. I joined a friend for the first 4 days with a pre-arranged photography tour. Pablo was our guide and proved to not only be extemely knowledgable and helpful in finding and photographing birds, but was lots of fun. He had a great sense of humor and added to our experience at the lodge... More
