The hostel is beautiful inside on the ground floor and the few from the terrace is spectacular. Unfortunately, the service is terrible. I was constantly reminding staff of the drinks and food that I had ordered. The service was slow and the manager was never around to talk to so the place is essentially run by the traveling volunteers who... More

We had booked a double room without bathroom, and although the room was basic, our overall impression of the hostel was very positive. Everything was clean, it seemed as if they cleaned the bathrooms frequently, and the rooftop terrace for breakfast was spectacular. Breakfast itself was good, it seems to be the norm here in Ecuador to pay on top... More

Ok the top terrace is really nice but the rest is nothing special. The place is loud and it is too expensive. I was in an other hotel where the price - value was much better. For sure if you like to meet other back-baggers it is the perfect place, but nothing else. And the Wifi was not really function.

The Secret Garden has some positives and negatives. One positive, if you are arriving late they have a guard who meets you. However, there is not a secure entrance. Even the hostel just down the road had a locked door for entry. The Secret Garden houses a travel agency on the bottom floor but I still think that is a... More

The hostel was largely staffed by volunteers. They were fine to hang out with, but mostly seemed to use the hostel for the free beer and lodging. Staff were unable to give local advice. It just seemed like people didn't really know what was going on. When checking in, the staff member struggled to find our room, which was windowless,... More

My friend and I stayed for four days and were very disappointed even though we tried to give it a chance. The showers only worked half the time (in terms of both pressure and hot water) which was unhelpful considering how cold Quito was. The toilets also had several wet towels lying around and had dirty floors. I also found... More

The place looks cool and has a decent backpacker vibe, and the terrace is beautiful, but overall we found Secret Garden to be dirty and uncomfortable. The bathroom was disgusting, too gross to shower in, and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The fact that the reception is on the fourth floor is also very inconvenient, and we found the travel... More

I used Quito as a bit of a hub as I visited other locations outside of Quito. I returned to The Secret Garden on three separate occasions. The dorms are relatively spacious with bunk beds and 6-8 person dorms. Some of the spaces between the bunks are quite small, so watch your head. Showers are plentiful but sometimes hot water... Staff weren't so helpful. They were regularly distracted and leaving customers wait to be served. The breakfast was very good and good value (we didn't have dinner here but it was popular and looked ok). The rooms are clean if kinda basic and the showers are all fine. Overall it is a perfectly good hostel but nothing special. Very safe... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in a private room which was good. It's very basic but when you're in a couple just being able to sleep in the same bed without being ripped off is great! Rooms are small and bland but the beds are comfy and it's very cozy. We were on the 3rd floor and the wifi... More
