In terms of a place to stay, Secret Garden is fine but nothing spectacular - the rooms (with shared bathroom and shower) are clean but small - but it has its appealing aspects. The view from the rooftop terrace is absolutely stunning, and the actual layout of the hostel (but several winding staircases) is unique and interesting. The rooftop terrace... More

The hostel is adequate, but what is really fantastic is the CarpeDM Adventures travel agency on the ground floor. Paul and his charming staff organised my disorganised self and went beyond the call of duty to ensure I was a happy camper. More

The Secret Garden is an above average hostel, but not amazing. It’s in a fairly good location on a cobbled street, around 10 minutes walk from the centre of the old town. The area itself is one of the safer ones in Quito, but it’s still not recommended to walk around there alone at night. The hostel itself is very... More

I know they say you sometimes have to pay to feel safe, but this is one of the most expensive hostels I've stayed in. Not so bad for dorm rooms, but single rooms are quite over-priced. The staff were helpful, and it was nice that we were able to store our bags even though we weren't staying a night at... More

Our family stayed here for several weeks, and we planned our Galapagos Islands boat trip and plane trip with the Travel Agency which is right next to this hostal (run by a Canadian). The hostal has a wonderful restaurant on the top floor, breakfast and dinner were reasonable. My daughter really enjoyed the staff, and met a few kids here... More

Ok, the dinners and view from the rooftop are world class, but that's all. Aggressive French owner, small rooms, bad WIFI and overpriced. Cuidado: 12% VAT is added to all prices shown on the website, which is a sneaky way to get you in. No kitchen either. More

found it charming, quirky, reasonably comfortable. older building with narrow stairs and creaky floors add character, I think. good breakfast on upper terrace, common areas with book exchange, computer, wifi cozy. good value. More

Secret Garden in Quito is a wonderfull place! Got this place recommended by some friends, and never regret that I tried their advise. I stayed in a 6-persons dorm. As far as I remember it was about 10 $. The brillant thing about the Secret Garden is that it's located in the beautifull old part of Quito. Very colonial and... More

We stayed with Secret Garden after being recommended to them by numerous travellers we met before coming to Quito. Yes, it is a hostel so it's cheap - but the atmosphere here far outweighed any other hostel we stayed at whilst in Ecuador, and the food was pretty good too. Reception is on the 5th floor - so if you... More

My sis & myself booked into the place based on previous ratings. But had a shock because it was nothing like we expected. I got claustrophobic shivers the minute I stepped in. On arrival, we faced a dark narrow corridor with no-one around. After clambering up 3 flights of steep, narrow, dark stairways, without meeting anyone, we found the reception... More
