others have said this, the Secret Garden is a delight on many levels but with some downsides too. The first floor rooms (doubles) are VERY noisy, and it goes all night as backpackers arrive at all hours and make a racket. The volunteer staff are just great, really friendly but I can't say the same for the paid staff. Rude... More

First I have to say the view from the terrace is absolutely AMAZING. Worth staying a night just to eat dinner overlooking central Quito and wake up and have breakfast there too. Location amazing, just 5 mins walk from central although obviously a 15-20 min cab ride from Plaza Foch for the bars (there is Nothing to do around central... More

The first night I stayed in a private room on the ground floor. Here I had a lovely sleep because it was nice and quiet. The second night we moved to a dorm, because this was cheaper. We were put in a dorm on the third floor, somewhere in the corner. The bunkbeds were really low. Can't recommend these to... More

This hostel is slightly over priced, but you are paying for a great location in the old town and an AMAZING terrace with panoramic views of the city. The terrace has a really friendly vibe, with a restaurant and bar so it's easy to make friends. The breakfasts aren't included but they are really cheap and tasty. This is a... More

Do not stay in room A1 or A2, it is on the bottom floor where everyone comes pass your room night and day dragging their bags talking at the top of their voice! The security guard lets people in and out all night and hasn't got the brains to advise people to be quiet as there are people trying to... More

We hadn't booked anywhere when we arrived in Quito and the first few places we tried were full. We thought we were lucky to get the last free twin room, but it was expensive at $33 including tax. In the evening the bar was crammed and cold with no where to sit, there is no wifi in the rooms, the... More

Sure some give the secret garden a low rating for it being noisy... it is. But it is good noise. Not some bored receptionist listening to some tv show all night like we had in Cuenca. It is the noise of vibrant city life, people enjoying travel, meeting others and having a good time. If you don't like that, certainly... More

Everyone knows that kid in class that has great potential yet somehow always fails that important test. Well that kid left school and opened the secret garden. The place has great potential but is ruined by one important factor... the staff. Before I rip into the place I should start off with the good points. The location is great, the... More

I came here based on their website and we were very disappointed. The website said they offered breakfast and dinner! However we didnt realize you have to pay. The breakfast was 2.50-5$ whereas the little restaurant across the street offers better breakfast for 1.50.... And the dinner they offer is 7$ with desert whereas most local restaurants will leave you... More

First: dont go there if you appreciate your sleep! Until 11pm people party above your head and at 7am cleaning ladies chat right outside your room. Beside that ask for a room with a window!!! Food is good at reasonable prize. The rooftop is amazing and staff friendly.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Secret Garden Quito is a friendly Australian/Ecuadorian/French family run hostel conveniently located in a quiet, authentic cobble-stone street in central Quito. Our 'barrio', or neighbourhood, is one of the few remaining Colonial districts and even our building is protected by a United Nations World Heritage listing. With a big improvement in security in the Old Town in recent years, plus 24 hour police patrols, our neighbourhood now enjoys a level of safety and security equal to (or often better than!!) most international capital cities. But there's more!!Our beautifully restored colonial building features a rooftop terrace/restaurant/bar with breathtaking views of the historical Old Town. Feel free to browse our hostal book exchange, chat with our friendly Ecuadorian and foreign staff, check your email (free use of computer and free Wifi), or just relax listening to any of our wide selection of music. ... more   less
