The Secret Garden is definitely overrated. The reception when we arrived was very poor: the boy said nothing too us and and was constantly on the phone with other people. We've paid 30 dollars for a double room. The room was very small, dark and had no window. There was a lot of mold in the bathroom. And overall it... More

Staff are super friendly and energetic, food they serve is excellent, view from the terrace makes you not need to leave the hostel! Stayed in a double- clean but window is the size of a brick so a bit dark. So much better staying in the old town rather than the mariscal (new area where most hostels are)

The Secret Garden Quito was professional in communication, organising our reservations and taxi pick up from the airport. However, after arriving at 9 pm from long travels it took the staff over 15 minutes to answer the front door. When walking inside this cave-like maze it was filled with smoke, drunks passed out in the stairs and very noisy backpackers.... More

First trip to Quito. Used Quito as a jumping-off point for the Galapagos. Hostel was a very short walk to a wonderful area in Quito. Hostel was "interesting". . . goofy layout, narrow halls and stairs, and shared baths. You may get lost in the maze depending upon where your room is located. But it was inexpensive (USD$15/person for private... More

This is the most expensive hostel we have stayed in during our three months in SA and the most disappointing. It was our second time in Quito and our second choice of hostel, Colonial House two streets across was full. The set up of the building is bizarre, reception on the 5th floor with backpacks and narrow stairs isn't fun... More

This hostel is situated in the Old Town of Quito which is the best part to stay in. Most other hostels are in The Mariscal which is just an area of clubs, fast food and bars! The terrace on this hostel has a fantastic view and is also where the breakfast and dinner is served. Huge variety of food for... More

Situated in the Old Town of Quito, The Secret Garden is an ideal location for exploring the old town and its many attractions. We were in a double room for US$30 per nights, but they also have dorms. The views from the terrace are spectacular; whilst the owner and staff are really friendly and helpful all around - from service... More

My boyfriend and I stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom for three nights. The building is a bit of a maze with hip decorations and hand-painted wall murals. The shared bathroom situation was a bit odd - shower and sink in one room, toilet and sink in another. The hot water was HOT and wasn't cooled by... More

Secret garden has a lot to offer. There is breakfast and dinner avaiable for purchase. A bar space with a terrace that over looks Quito. Its a good location in old town with trolley stops near by. I stayed in another hostel where I paid less for a private with bathroom than the dorms here but the the atmosphere and... More

The good things first: - Eating breakfast on the terrace or spending a cozy evening there with a great view over the city is the best thing of the hostal - There's the option to have dinner on the terrace as well! So enjoy a good meal with friendly fellow travelers on the terrace and aferwards maybe drink a beer... More
