Perhaps the owner was on his own vacation when we stayed, but we definitely did not have the welcoming experiences of stories told that others did. The Hacienda: After walking the grounds, I felt nothing but depressed. Everything was run down; upkeep and maintenance was clearly not high on the list. Inside rooms all stank of mold and mildew. If... More

I was very excited to go to Hacienda Guachala and booked a room for the night when two of my sisters and a friend came to town. My sister is vegetarian so I made sure to check the menu. When I looked online it seemed as though the Hacienda had a wide selection of food and drinks as well as... More

If your benchmark is Hilton forget this place. If you are a romantic at heart you will see the spleadour of the sixteenth century buildings and not the flaking paint the squeaky floorboards and ill fitting doors. We stayed here as a tour group of 12 for two nights and had a great time. Many in our party said that... More

There is no separate category for restaurant only for this Hacienda, so I am including it here. The place seemed like it needed some upkeep- the grounds and property were very basic. I would rate this place a 2.5. The service was quite slow for lunch. I believe it took us almost 2 hours for lunch which was far more... More

I travelled here as part of a large group and the owners went out of their way to accommodate us. The setting was beautiful and the facilities were top quality. The indoor swimming pool was great for pool volleyball and the surrounding area provided some nice walks. The food was tasty too and we even got to try guinea pig!... More

It was amazing to be a guest on such a special spot. The Hacienda is pretty well conserved, maintained and run by very friendly and helpful staff. A great place to rest in between climbs as well. The food was was simple but amazing, especially breakfast that looked more like a banquet.

The Hacienda Guachala, is a cultural delight! I believe it is the oldest hacienda in Ecuador! Yes, it falls pray to power outages, but listening to the wind dance through the trees is worth the outage. You do need to wait for fresh food to be prepared, but hey, I prefer it fresh. If you sit on the gorgeous veranda... More

Out of hundreds of hotels around the world this was the absolute WORST ever! Why stay somewhere for the owner to teach you a history lesson or to tell you stories? We were misled to believe the hacienda had this "ambiance" and "charm". Well, we did research the history which is fascinating and believed the older reviews which listed it... More

Wow,can't believe the rave reviews this place received! Let me preface this review with saying that I grew up in an old home and that we rough camp frequently. We drove 2,000 km all over Ecuador staying in hotels to hostels, living out of backpacks and this was THE WORST! Being into historic places and architecture, we were really looking forward to... More

The Hacienda is extremelly run down, the floors in the rooms have not seen a mop for a long time, the bathrooms are very dirty and in porr condition with mould and missing tiles. Thee is only one restaurant and not 3 as on the web site and the fod is average with the breakfast very overpriced. Could not recommend... More
