My wife and I spent two nights at the lodge after coming from the Amazon Napo Eco Lodge (see review). We came here primarily to see some of the birds and were not disappointed as we were able to see many hummingbirds and some great birds such as the Toucan Barbet, Toucans, and Quetzal all in one full days stay.... We stayed at Maqui Eco Lodge for 3 nights of our vacation and we brought our 8 and 9 year old kids along for the adventure to Ecuador. After 3 nights at Yasuni in the Amazon, we didn't want to travel too far from Quito in our short 8 day trip over the spring break. Nature + culture was the... More

My husband and I stayed at Maquipucuna for a couple nights, mostly to relax after a Galapagos cruise and to hopefully see some interesting birds. Macqui is a private nature reserve with a mission to save virgin forest and help people in the local communities cater to ecotourism. The people that work at and run Macqui are incredibly nice and... Lost in a cloud forest. Early morning birdwatching led by Arcenio in a mist so light you get damp, rather than wet. Maqui's host Arcenio has been leading birdwatching so long he has become a natural at it. His whistles bring birds in. He sees them in their perch long before you do. What appears to my eye as a... We stayed at Maqui for two nights in November. We went on 2 early morning bird walks and walks during the mornings and the afternoons. Our guide Arsenio was excellent at helping us to spot birds and we saw many different species including toucans, woodpeckers and quetzals. He also realised that our interests were all round and indentified insects and... More

The lodge is set in the middle of a gorgeous rainforest, the food is prepared fresh and is delicious, the accomodations are very comfortable, clean and well maintained, the guides are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, the lodge is part of a very reputable foundation so we knew that our money was being spent well, and the views can not... Maquipucuna lodge is a fabulous little retreat right in the heart of the beautiful cloud forest. Very comfortable and welcoming. The staff, especially Alsenio made our stay very special and could not do enough for us. They shared tips on cooking, were inspirational guides during our treks through the cloud forest, provided us with knowledge and expertise and chilled out... More
