A truly amazing few days. The eco lodge in the cloud forest was tranquil and beautiful. The guides were knowledgeable and patient and genuinely cared about the environment and the flora and fauna. Food was simple but lovely as was the accommodation.Enjoyed the array of different birds we spotted but were wowed ,stunned and delighted see an Andean Spectacled Bear... More

I stayed here for a night because it was the closest hotel in the area where an adventure race was taking place. The hotel was clean, it had hot water, and the bed was pretty comfortable ... all I needed after being awake for almost 24 hours. Our room was right next to the river, so you could hear the... More

MFJaramillo, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Maquipucuna, and specially that you could rest after an exhausting day following the non-stop all night race. You were not ripped off, on the contrary, you received a substantial discount and we kindly ask that you please review your tripadvisor comment in light of the facts: As support for the... More

We chose Maqui as last leg of our Ecuador tour (Quito, Galapagos, and The Oriente were the previous ones) to experience a completely different environment and, hopefully, some great birdwatching. We were not disappointed, not in the least! Rooms are basic but clean and spacious, food is simply excellent - a surprising mix of Ecuadorian and Italian cuisine -, staff... More

We stopped here for two nights before heading to Galapagos. The staff and founder were fantastic. The founder Rebecca met us at our hotel to transport us to the lodge. She gave us a warm welcome and info all the way to the lodge. On arrival in the jungle we were greeted by a friendly staff and escorted to one... More

Maquipucuna is a great way to experience Ecuador's cloud forest without breaking the bank. The drive from Quito to the lodge was an adventure in itself, with great vistas and plenty of photo ops. The return trip to Quito included a stop at the "real" equator (not the theme park) with great views down the valley into Quito - special... More

As a biologist looking to for a few days of cloud-forest R&R, I picked this Eco Lodge because it is owned and operated by the Fundación Maquipucuna - an incredible, family-run group that has single-handedly taken important steps to preserve some of the most beautiful and endangered environments in all of Ecuador. If you can find their "history" photo book,... More

I reviewed the reserve separately, so this will focus on our experience with the lodge and everything that pertains to that. Successes: -The location is superb! Great trails that you can take on your own (however they could improve the signage as there are a couple of spots we weren't sure which way to follow). -Hummingbirds all over the place!... More

We stayed for 2 nights in the reserve and loved every minute of it. We are a family of four with little kids and we stayed in one of the cabins, while our friends stayed in the lodge. I thought the cabin was a much better experience, with a lot of space to relax. We spent a lot of time... More

My 84 year old mother, a family friend, and I arrived at Maqui resort after a pleasant drive with our driver Bernardo, and after one night, all we could say was "wish we would have booked more than one night"! The scenery on the way from Quito changes with altitude, and by the time of arrival at Maqui, we were... More

Just spent the last 5 days at Maqui, a 15,000acre cloud forest reserve about 1.5hrs from Quito. The overall experience was fantastic, from initial booking through Rebeca to pickup by the driver Luis to the extraordinary effort put in by the guide Arcenio throughout the stay. The highlight was the amazing birds on offer each day - usually a 5:30... More
