I first visited Maquipucuna in 1999 and had always wanted to go back and spend more time in this amazing cloud forest. I finally had the opportunity in February - and I was not disappointed. The forest has matured and the lodge itself has been improved, but it's still remote and quiet and beautiful. Our cabin was comfortable and the... More

This lodge is meant for those interested in nature specifically. It is located in a large reserve that is primarily old growth forest with some secondary forest. The old growth forest is truly a magically experience with a huge number of species of trees, ferns, orchids, epiphytes, etc. There is an incredible number of birds. Many different types of hummingbirds... More

Our 4 night stay was memorable for all the right reasons. We enjoyed fantastic birdwatching with our all seeing and hugely knowledgeable guide Arcenio, regularly interspersed with delicious home cooked food. There were several self guided scenic trails starting from the Lodge with something to suit all levels of fitness and our room overlooking the river had a private terrace... More

Traditional style eco-lodges in the middle of a cloud forest: a wonderful place to take hikes and relax. You are surrounded by amazing nature, have your coffee with hummingbirds, next to the river. Great food and service from the staff, who will definitely succeed in surpassing their enthusiasm and love for the birds, surrounding forest and spectacle bear to you!

We stayed at Maquipucuna for 4 nights as part of our tour of Ecuador. First of all I should say how easy the booking process was, the website is not that great for rate enquiries or booking (apparently this is being updated) but from the first enquiry email all the way through to the reminder confirmation was very professional and... A truly amazing few days. The eco lodge in the cloud forest was tranquil and beautiful. The guides were knowledgeable and patient and genuinely cared about the environment and the flora and fauna. Food was simple but lovely as was the accommodation.Enjoyed the array of different birds we spotted but were wowed ,stunned and delighted see an Andean Spectacled Bear... More

I stayed here for a night because it was the closest hotel in the area where an adventure race was taking place. The hotel was clean, it had hot water, and the bed was pretty comfortable ... all I needed after being awake for almost 24 hours. Our room was right next to the river, so you could hear the... More

MFJaramillo, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Maquipucuna, and specially that you could rest after an exhausting day following the non-stop all night race. You were not ripped off, on the contrary, you received a substantial discount and we kindly ask that you please review your tripadvisor comment in light of the facts: As support for the... More

We chose Maqui as last leg of our Ecuador tour (Quito, Galapagos, and The Oriente were the previous ones) to experience a completely different environment and, hopefully, some great birdwatching. We were not disappointed, not in the least! Rooms are basic but clean and spacious, food is simply excellent - a surprising mix of Ecuadorian and Italian cuisine -, staff... More

We stopped here for two nights before heading to Galapagos. The staff and founder were fantastic. The founder Rebecca met us at our hotel to transport us to the lodge. She gave us a warm welcome and info all the way to the lodge. On arrival in the jungle we were greeted by a friendly staff and escorted to one... More

Maquipucuna is a great way to experience Ecuador's cloud forest without breaking the bank. The drive from Quito to the lodge was an adventure in itself, with great vistas and plenty of photo ops. The return trip to Quito included a stop at the "real" equator (not the theme park) with great views down the valley into Quito - special... More
