the positives with this hotel was the small outdoor courtyard. the room was small and basic, but for the price it was fine. the down side was that we had a room on the ground floor and it was very loud. we could hear every conversation and the footsteps of everyone passing through the lobby. also at check out i... more

I stayed at La Cartuja with my mother on either side of a trip to the Galapagos with GAP Adventures (a company I would recommend avoiding) for a total of three nights and we both found this hotel to be excellent. It is more of a bed and breakfast (I think it has 12 rooms) than a hotel. The rooms... more

Hotel La Cartuja was one of our best finds on the internet. We had a courtyard room which was quiet, with a pleasant aspect. Probably the rooms around the courtyard are a little smaller than in the main house. What made our stay so special was the staff - Miguel and Diana were most welcoming and helpful and we immediately... more

Generally I've had great luck with hotels recommended by Tripadvisor members. However, after making a reservation weeks in advance, then reconfirming a quiet room away from the street both by email and an international phone call the day before I arrived, and paying extra to have the hotel send their driver to the airport to get me, I was told... more

The best thing Hostal La Cartuja has going for it is a super staff, especially Diana, and a quiet, relatively safe location. I say that despite the fact that we were robbed out in front of the hotel when we arrived. This was NOT the fault of the hotel. We were set up by our taxi driver. I have posted... more

My husband and I met our Peace Corps friends in Quito last week and stayed our first night at the Hotel Cartuja. It's in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of things to do in walking distance. The rooms exceeded my expectations for an Ecuadorian budget hotel--we paid $80 for a quad and got a breakfast of eggs, toast and coffee.... more

This place is a great base to explore the old town and new town of Quito. Comfortable rooms and terrific breakfast included in the price. Located a block from the Casa de Cultura, you can't go wrong. Quiet neighborhood setting within walking distance (day-time only) of the lively Mariscal area of Quito. more

For $50 (double) you get a basic smallish room that is fairly clean and has a tv. This hotel is for the traveler that doesn't want to pay too much, wants to meet other travelers and doesn't want to hang around the hotel too much. The staff are helpful and all speak English quite well. The bedding is a bit... more

I stayed at this hotel for a total of ten days. Part of my stay there was after arrival in Quito and the other part was after touring the Galapagos. The hotel is located behind the U.S. Embassy and is just a few blocks from a market area. The area around the hotel was quite safe and one could walk... more

La Cartuja is in a good, central local. The staff is absolutely amazing, especially Miguel. Our trip would not have been what it was had we not stayed there. Make sure to eat eggs at breakfast because they will hold you over until lunch or dinner. The juice here was great, too. Thanks again for a great trip, Miguel!!!!! -... more
