Everything about this place was amazing (except the bicycles!!). The food, the staff, the surroundings, the hikes, the dogs, the jacuzzi, the people you meet there, the lack of internet, I could go on and on.

The following is not indicative of the experience of most guests. Pros at the bottom. Abstract: I was asked to leave Secret Garden Cotopaxi three days after my tent was broken into because I raised too much suspicion by informing guests of thefts on two consecutive nights. I stayed at Secret Garden Cotopaxi from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, 2014.... More

great hostel with friendly (English speaking!) staff and a very charming athmosphere! I would recommend you to go for the "double room" accomodation! The "Playhouse" is very small and is only a little cheaper than the double rooms! Additionally the double rooms are actually a small appartment where they make fire for you every evening- so it's very comfy and... More

Thanks very much - we're glad to hear that you loved everything as much as most people do. And thanks for passing on those comments to other travellers - we agree with you that the Private Cabañas are worth paying just a few dollars extra per night. The Tent cabins and Playhouse are more basic but they still have a... More

Whow, what a place. Needs to be experienced, defiantly more than 5 stars. Picture perfect location in the valley of volcanos, you wake up to a view of Cotopaxi as the sky is clear in the morning, free guided magical walks to the waterfall, more gruel some but thoroughly enjoyable guided climbs of your choice of volcano, our own fire... We stayed 2 nights in a cabin (without electricity). The location is absolutely amazing! In the morning we woke up with the beautifull Cotopaxi vulcan at the horizon. To be honest we must say that there are some cons: Private cabins do not have electricity so candlelight is the only option. Don't expect luxery because the cabins are small and... More

Our Private Cabañas are approx 30m2 (300 ft2) and all contain at least a double bed, private bathroom, sunken bathtub, wood stove/fireplace and other furniture. This is the first time we've heard our cabins described as "small and very basic", but we'd welcome suggestions on how they could be improved. Most guests love our various pasta dishes and absolutely rave... More

Good: - The view of Cotopaxi and the surrounding landscape was magical -The food, which is included, is superb, unlimited banana cake, and very good vegetarian options - The fireplace was wonderful to warm up at night, the showers were nice and hot, and although the lack of wifi (Yes there is NO wifi), surprised us at first, we loved... Many thanks for all the positive comments. We're glad you also enjoyed the experience of having fun, easy-going volunteers around the place. Just to clarify though, at least 80% of people at both our hostels are permanent Ecuadorian staff. The Secret Garden Cotopaxi is run by Diego, who you mentioned - he's bi-lingual, permanent Ecuadorian staff, and does a great... More

We spent two nights at The Secret Garden Cotapaxi. This place is an absolute oasis. It takes a while on a bumpy road to arrive from Quito, though the journey is well worth it. Make sure you stay 2 nights minimum - and make sure you do the Cotapaxi glacier trip with mountain biking. The spa is a nice touch... More

It might help to tell people when they make the online reservation that.. ..the road from Machachi is so basic that it takes an hour of uncomfortable bumpiness to cover the 17 km. The only sign to the hotel is the one at the entrance (3km before you reach the place), so be prepared to constantly stop and ask for... More

We're sorry to hear that you did not enjoy The Secret Garden Cotopaxi as much as everyone else does. Not sure how the journey from Quito took 6 hours. The hostel is clearly marked on eg google maps and the drivetime is about 90 mins. The sources of our various awards are clearly cited. Not sure why you would allege... More

A bit on the pricier side, but well worth it! Staff/volunteers there were warm, welcoming, and friendly. Three DELICIOUS meals a day were included (plus an afternoon snack), and there was a hot tub on site with an insane view of Cotopaxi. The second I arrived, a mug of mulled wine was placed in my hands and later all the... More

Just loved the Secret Garden Cotopaxi!! The hostel (hacienda) is located in a secluded area with awesome views on the Cotopaxi. The fire in the rooms is being lit every night and I (single female traveller who's almost always cold ;) was never cold at the hostel. Loved the people, the activities, the jacuzzi, the fireplace, the mulled wine,... Definitely... More
