Alicia Vega, owner and manager of Hostal Quito Cultural, has created an environment that is rich with artistic expression in an old mansion that has been in the family for generations. The three story building, in the center of Quito's magnificent historic district--within walking distance to most sites--has a central patio filled with exuberant tropical plants and flowers and artwork... first off, this hostal has a great location for the old centre sites, and the staff are all very nice. Having said that, during our stay we witnessed that the breakfast staff, some mornings only one lady, were very overworked, with no support, which made us feel awkward at breakfast time. Breakfast itself was only warm on the most un-busy... More

This is a very picturesque hostal in the historic district of Quito. As in many Latin American hostals there is a central courtyard open to the sky. Their spoken English is only so-so, but I don't think that would be a problem. The people and staff were very attentive and helpful. They responded immediately to any problems, and provided us... The best thing going for them is the hot water. It was the best shower I took in Ecuador. The breakfast was also good. The negative though is that our flight was after checkout so we checked out, walked around the city a while, and then came back to the hostel where our taxi would be picking us up. The... More

We stayed for two nights on arrival in Quito. Old building and we had a nice room 309 on 2nd floor, very basic. It is an old hostel though cLean, but very basic. Lovely friendly staff, super new night watchman who is very helpful, as was Alicia the owner in helping us contact airport to retrieve our lost luggage. Breakfast... More

The location is great, right in the heart of the old city. But there are many things wrong with this hostel! I came with my own family and with one other family. The day before our arrival, the hostel asked when we were getting in so they could pick us up at the airport. They never mentioned that it would... More

Clean with an open air central court yard with chairs and couches outside the rooms to sit and enjoy. Bed was comfortable. Showers hot with the fantastic water pressure. My room (208) had a constantly running toilet which absolutely drove me crazy. My fault for not saying anything but with a one night stay I decided not to bother. The... More

We stayed here in November, 2013, felt well cared for and liked it so much that we left our luggage there to go on some small excursions. It became our home away from home. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the staff feel like family. The location could not be better for being in the historic downtown. We... More

I arrived in Quito old town without a reservation anywhere and went first to the Hotel Viena Internacional. It was a bit of a gamble but as it was low season I hadn't had a problem not making reservations in other places. Of course Hotel Viena was full but they directed me a few doors up the street to Hostal... More

I tried 3 times to book this property on 2 different booking sites, and it turns out that Hotels.com and Venere both have false prices listed for this property. I received e-mails right away from Alicia, the owner, which I think was very kind because if she had not done so, I would have never known until the argument over... More
