We arrived in Singapore only to find our airline had lost our luggage. We had no choice but to leave the airport and head to Betel box and wait for them. Our taxi found the hostel easily and from the moment we arrived the staff were amazing. They sympathised with us over our lost bags and gave us towels free... More

When you arrive in a new city there's nothing better than staying somewhere that feels like home from the get go. The hidden green door that leads to the stairs into Betel Box opens up to a world of hospitality, smiles and a vast array of information about this state of the art city. Tony and his team run a... Quite simply exactly what you pay for. So cheap and that is important in a city that is so expensive. The staff are very straight forward and knowledgeable. They hostel offers many discounts on local attractions (universal studios) and also the walking tour starts there. I would suggest that if someone is on a budget then they need to stay... More

I dont like writing bad reviews but need to be honest. Il start with the two good points you can get the MRT to the air port for cheap if you dont mind walking 20 mins with your bags. Staff are friendly. The place is loud. Can hear music till 3am and the showers make so much noise. From 730... More

Investigation done with the team. Explained to the guest that rattling noise was due to the street level water mains pipe in the streets bursting; affecting the whole neighbourhood. We apologise on our part for not cordoning of the affected toilet during certain hours so as to prevent the pipe from rattling. There was no music played in the whole... More

I have stayed at Betel Box Hostel on my stop overs in Singapore. The Staffs are very friendly and helpful. The toilets, bathrooms and rooms are clean with good air conditioning. The lobby is very spacious, cosy with large flat screen TV, feeling like at Home. The morning breakfast is well served with fruits, tea, coffee, toasts, jams, etc. The... More

The Hostel is nice, although nothing special. There is only one bathroom which is a bit inconvenient. The next Subway Station is a good 15-min walk away, which was the Main reason I stayed elsewhere when I was back to SGP. Staff is very helpful in planning your sightseeing Trip and When You're arriving late at the airport and forced... More

On check-in we have mentioned to the guest that there are toilets & bathroom facilities across 5 floors of the entire hostel available for use. Though the MRT is 15min walk away, the bus to the city centre is 5mins from the Hostel. Betel Box is located in the Katong / Joo Chiat district also known as Little Singapore, this... More

This hostel is a really good find and although it's slightly pricier than others it is well worth the stay. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning made sleeping in the rooms easy. Lockers are provided and so is a simple breakfast and all day tea and coffee. The lounge was comfortable and brought all the guests together. The... More

Joo Chiat is the street the hostel is on. I returned during a recent 3 city trip of Honk Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. I love the food here. Once you have found this place, there is no point thinking about it again. The host Tony's attention is detail is great and this is still an amazing place for the traveller... More

While I found it difficult to find initially, it was a good place to stay. I was able to walk to the beach, yes beach as well as the transit station and a large bazaar going on. Receptionist was welcoming and the accommodations good. It was comfortable and quiet.

Good hostel to stay in. Staff was nice and helpful, location was good. It's not too far of a bus ride from the airport, and it's near a food street area which was convenient. Also not too far of a walk to a subway station and it's very easy to explore Singapore that way. Hostel is also very clean and... More

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighborhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
