My friend and I stayed at Betel Box Hostel for 3 nights while we were in Singapore. We love the traveler's atmosphere at this hostel. Tony showed us around and told us many stories about this neighborhood and the old days Singapore. He offers great local tour as well. We joint his evening food market tour which was awesome. Highly... More

I stayed in Singapore just for one night during my layover to Phnom Penh. This hostel is particularly good if you're coming from the airport and need to find somewhere relatively close because it's located maybe half way between the airport and downtown Singapore and taking a taxi here is also much cheaper. The area is nice and it has... More

Certainly Ms Tini the owner has done very well with this venture. She has good skill in selecting the right people like Mr Tony and other staff. Her neatness to detail can be used for other hostels and hotels. If I could put ten stars for this Hostel I would do now..I am a regular traveller to Singapore.I was greeted well at the... I booked through hostelbookers.com for this site and all seemed to go through fine. I then got a message from Betel box themselves saying that they had double booked me and that I could not have the room that I had paid for. I tried to organise an alternate with them as I was still keen to stay with them... More

The writer did not stay with us but have a dispute over of our handling of a double booking 3 months ahead of time of her planned stay. in our discussion from the very start, we have acknowledged that it was our fault and have offered alternatives and compensation but she has threatened us with going public on the internet.... Betel Box is my favorite place to stay when I travel to Singapore. I first stayed here 7 years ago for nearly 3 weeks and fell in love with the place. It has a lovely home-like atmosphere, fantastic common areas, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds and outstanding service. Absolutely nothing out of this list has changed in the last 7 years... More

Betel Box was nice, but definitely no-frills. I slept in a mixed dorm with about 10 other people. The common area of the hostel was nice, with a TV, wii, and pool table. There were always backpackers or employees laying around to chat with. The staff was very friendly, and with the help of Emily, I found a few local... More

Make sure you go on a Thursday night food walk! Hostel guests only pay $30 Singapore dollars ($24 usd) and you get to try about 30 different dishes and get a thorough guided lesson from the owner, Tony, about what makes Singapore unique. As for the actual hostel, we stayed in the private room - 3 of us fit very... More

Warm welcome, great vibe, -no so clean kitchen- but overall , good choice to stay when backpacking through Singapore C: Tip: If going in a group it's a good idea to book a private room, it usually has a toilet and shower within

I have stayed there twice already and will come back! My last stay was for a month from Oct to Nov 2013. Uncle Tong and Tony are the best and make the hostel feel so homey and welcoming! There is a ton of food within a 5 minute walk from the hostel from restaurants serving chili crab to all kinds... More

Went on 15 Nov, stayed for a night in the private double room. Very spacious with ants as companions and was bitten by one as I napped. The air con is incredibly loud; like some grasscutter just beside me working on his machine. Had to turn it off to actually get some rest. There are three openable windows which is... More
