I discovered this hotel chain on Booking.com and Agoda.com and noted I could save a lot more if I chose one of their locations a bit outside the center. Being Singapore, I didn't need to really worry about the neighborhood, although Geylang has a reputation for prostitutes, some of which will try and grab you on the street during the... More

In all honesty, we found booking accommodation in Singapore extremely challenging. Double rooms in any backpacker hostel, to private hotel were very expensive and out of our travelling price range. Each hotel I researched that looked reasonable (which were all in Geylang district) had terrible reviews! I was terrified knowing Hotel 81 was in the heart of that district... But... More

Cheap hotel in a very expensive city. We didn't pay much and didn't get much, a double bed and a shower. No room but room is at a premium in Singapore. Ideal for budget travellers like myself. Didn't see any prostitutes anywhere

Plenty of budget restaurants nearby, mostly, Indian and Chinese food. Rooms are quite affordable and cozy..staffs are professional but not so friendly, you greet them and never greets you back...its location is quite far from the Airport and Universal Studio, too..but if you want to blend in with the locals at night..you can go out and have a short walk,... The hotel is average. It was the cheapest we could find. It's located in the red light district, you will see a lot of action going on, nevertheless it's a safe neighborhood plus it's close to a train station so it's easy to move around if you want to go downtown or to Sentosa.

Price is definitely affordable. Comfortable. Good got chilling out with friends, but if want to have a comfort rest overnight, it is not recommended. Gd to chill with friends on week ends or if you nothing to do

My partner and I booked a room for one night after returning to Singapore from a cruise in mid February. We prebooked the room and paid around £40 for one night. We actually only wanted the room for the day and early evening as we were flying out of Changi at 11.30pm. Prior to our arrival, I emailed the hotel... More

If you want luxury-- this is not the hotel for you. But location and quick service is fine. Centrally located and accessible to most tourist destination. Quick check-in and check-out too. I don't mind going back. You get what you pay for....

We asked a cabbie to take us to a clean/comfortable hotel under S$100. Well the old saying 'you get what you pay for' still stands strong. The cost was S$85 for the night. By no means cheap but it is for Singapore. It rates as the smallest room we have ever been in. Barely enough room to walk around the... More

Staying in Geylang

Neighborhood Profile
Only a short journey from Singapore’s sparkling and polished city center, Geylang is a world away. Here in one of the least touristy areas of Singapore, visitors are privy to an unfiltered glimpse of Singapore life. On Sunday afternoons, migrant workers gather in Geylang to let off steam after a tough week. At the eastern end of Geylang Road, families and friends happily enjoy picnics. By contrast, at the western end, a more colorful side of Singapore can be seen, as street workers mingle with Sunday revelers in outdoor coffee shops. Take a friend, grab a beer and a local meal (frog porridge, perhaps?), and settle in to enjoy the show.
