I stayed at Hotel 1929 in January for 2 nights as a stop over to Australia with my husband and also my parents. The hotel is in a great location, just around the corner from Chinatown so lots of restaurants and things to see right on the door step. We walked to Marina bay sands and Raffles on one day... More

Nice little hotel in the Chinatown area...we stayed in 206.... A very tiny but perfectly serviceable room. Wifi worked well, desk staff was courteous and helpful. The positive aspects of this hotel are clean, very comfortable beds, and it is very quaint. Negatives, the breakfast was quite meager, even though we are not big eaters, and the rooms lacked safes.... More

We have stayed here twice so far and would come again. The hotel's location in Chinatown is great with the Outram Park MRT just a short walk away. The rooms are cozy and very clean. Even though they are TINY it doesn't really matter since one normally doesn't come to Singapore to stay inside the hotel room. If you are... More

Hi anina317, Greetings from Hotel 1929! Thank you so much for taking time to share this review and coming back again to stay with us! Indeed, the location is a boon with the vicinity peppered with food places from award winning restaurants to famous local favourites. This is a boutique hotel located in Singapore ‘s China town. It ‘s location is ideal for those moving around as an FIT. Walking down to the main road and turn left- is the Outram MRT station for the East/west line . Or turn right and walk for another 500m to the Chinatown station for the north/East line. Perfect location.... More

Hello willysee, Greetings from Hotel 1929! Thank you for this review following your stay in December. It will definitely serve as a helpful guide for travellers. Indeed, being housed in a conservation building, we do face some spatial constraints. Hotel 1929 was the pioneering boutique hotel in Singapore which has set a benchmark for such hotels in the city! Our... More

What an awesome place in to stay in Singapore! We were able to walk to almost everywhere except Little India. 2 train stations very close by, along with 2 temples, one right across the street. Tons of award winning restaurants around the corner & Chinatown 2 blocks away with the most amazing food choices ever! The room was small but... More

This is a very characterful hotel in Chinatown. Rooms are of course smallish, but quite ok. Internet is good, breakfast terrible. If you can, go elsewhere for breakfast. Location unbeatable, but difficult for taxis in the evening. Not too loud.

Hi TheLegos! Thank you so much for this review of Hotel 1929. We're glad to know that you liked the strategic location. Hotel 1929 was one of the pioneer boutique hotels in Singapore and being housed in a conservations shophouse, we do admit that the rooms are compact, catering mostly to solo travellers. Hotel 1929 is a great place to stay in the heart of Chinatown a hop and a skip away from the infamous Indian Temple (literally across the street from the hotel) and walking distance to Maxwells Hawker Food Center. The staff are friendly and efficient and happy to help out. While the rooms are very small and compact they are... More

yes the rooms and bathrooms are tiny but very comfortable. big hint: there is storage under the bed in drawers and also open space for a suitcase (it took me a day to figure this out). a good price for singapore and the chinatown neighborhood is colorful with food courts and a big covered market, not to mention the enormous... Hi mimiechouteau, We appreciate you sharing this comprehensive review with us here on Tripadvisor. It's great to know that you had a very comfortable stay! Housed in a conservations shophouse, it has its spatial challenges.Taking this into our stride, every space is optimally used, hence storage spaces underneath the bed and other creative nooks and crannies in the room. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's easy to walk around Chinatown & the Chinatown train station is close by. The staff are super friendly and the interior is really cool. The hotel rooms in front are a bit better. But considering the price range, this one is very positive. Clean..5 min from MRT (metro). There is a Hindu temple in front, but we did rather hear this funny little birdie (a bit like a djungle bird would sound...didnt see it) then tje temple....service very (!) polite and the breakfast nice.... Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colorful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
