Wanted a last minute staycation and booking.com offered a good rate of approximately $160 for 2 pax (inclusive breakfast) for weekend stay. Stayed in the superior room and the room was really small. No wardrobe, no bedroom slippers. Hubby commented that it was a hole in the wall. Sound proofing was bad because I can hear people opening the doors.... More

Hello hunhunhun, Thank you for your honest feedback. For staycations, we would usually recommend the Deluxe rooms or the two suites; Junior Suite and Terrace Suite as they are more spacious. As a conservations shophouse, we do admit that the rooms are rather compact hence catering more to the solo travellers. Perhaps the next time, we could have you try... More

The hotel is located in a street full of trendy cafes, bars and restaurants. It is also close to the Chinatown and to a metro station. Which was really ideal!! The hotel is nicely furnished. The superior rooms are small but confortable. The hotel also provides a free mobile phone with unlimited calls and 3G access. We would definitely go... More

Based on the article that i read, the building was built on 1929 and became hotel around 2003. I like the architecture of the hotel. The hotel is very stylist in the lobby. I got chance to stay at room 306 with balcony. Check in was smooth and the receptionist allowed me to early check in... thank you. Located around... More

The room is really small, but it was cosy. You can literally hear your neighbours banging their doors and talking at the corridor. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! However the breakfast buffet choices were very very limited and the cut fruits were dried up and not fresh anymore. There no eggs or ham or any meat... More

Three reasons I rould not book this place after staying here: 1. Biggest offense is upon the elevator opening to the second floor where our room was, the strong and pervasive smell of smoke and old mildew. It was overpowering. The smell lives in the walls and carpet. I even came home with a suitcase of smoke scented clothes. 2.... More

Location near to Outram MRT. Small& Cosy room. Check in and out was smooth. Complimentary canned drinks, juices & biscuits available at Reception. The door is not sound proof . As such u are able to hear very clearly the noise from outside when Housekeeping cleaning. Overall, would consider coming back again

Hotel 1929 is situated in Singapore's Chinatown, in a row of traditional shop houses, on a street of similar, colourful old buildings. The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving good advice on places to eat and getting around. The room was very small, but functional. A whole corner of the room was taken up by the bathroom, which was... More

1929 is a modern, design-driven boutique hotel in an immaculately maintained colonial building. The rooms are admittedly small, but the design is efficient and respectful of the building's original architecture, which is so lovely. The iconic furniture pieces are beautiful to look at and the hotel's interior design is unique and refreshing. Also charming were the hotel staff. The front... More

This was a first indeed! When we arrived at 1929 we where informed that because we booked on their website we got a complementary Handy.Travel phone with free data and calling both local and to a select list of countries for the duration of our stay, and boy did that make our trip so much more great! We had booked... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colorful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
