Great location with a reasonable price. The hotel is located at a very convenient location inside the Chinatown which is close to MRT, taxi, shops and eating places. The décor is really unique as it was converted from a Chinese Opera House. I like the kind of feel and atmosphere that brings you back in time. The room is a... More

I have to ask that as we read these other reviews that are less than positive. In an older part of town that is well established, the idea of seeing a bug/cockroach is not going to dramatically upset us. After all, they are everywhere in warm climates. Just a matter of how much and how often they come in and... More

Right in the heart of Chinatown and less than a 5 minute walk from the MRT. The room was clean but small. For a city centre hotel, not that expensive SNG $110. It's all about expectations so don't expect that you will be staying in a massive room and you will be fine, just get out and enjoy the city... More

The room was very very tiny, the bathroom is even tinier. The good thing is its location that easy to get around everywhere in Singapore. And its low cost making it not a bad choice for storing luggage and sleeping.

It is designed to have as many rooms as possible. Besides the small and windowless rooms, it can be really tricky to escape in times of emergency. The staff are helpful and trying to make the stay as memorable as possible.

Lai Chun Yen is a few doors further down the street..the lobby is relatively large compared to the room size which are not big enough to swing the proverbial cat around..I originally had a window room which was soooo noisy I asked for a move and they offered me a windowless room which I had never slept in ever and... Dear Valued Guest We would like to thank you for the feedback on your stay with us. The hotel is situated in the heart of Chinatown with lively activities going into the evening. While some guests love to soak into the bustling ambience typical of Chinatown living, some prefer a quiet and serene environment. We will train our frontline staff... More

I was given a tiny " superiors twin room" at Santa grand hotel Lai Chung yuen during my stay in Singapore, And the receptionist tell me that is the room I had order.I email my complaint to sg office but they also confirm that is my order. I never stay at this type of room b4 in my life .... More

Dear Valued Guest Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen is a refurbished conservation house, where much consideration was put to retain the nostalgia flavour of old time Chinatown. The rooms of the “five-foot-way” era were left unchanged as much as possible, thus explaining the size of the rooms. It is unfortunate that the photographs illustrated in the website gave you... Singapore can be an expensive city, especially when it comes to accommodation. What makes this worse is that there is a real lack of mid range hotels at reasonable prices, as we only found windowless rooms in a hostel or luxury hotels that we couldn't afford. We wanted to have somewhere basic but beautiful and in a great location, as... More

There are 2 Santa Grand hotels on the same street, one is Lai Chun Yuen & the other Santa Grand Chinatown. Be sure to check which hotel you are booked in because you might get confused once you reached the vicinity. The door greeter, an elderly man, was very nice, friendly & helpful in explaining the ways to go around... More

The beds are so hard we could not sleep but not helped by the noise as it busy location. Next door to us we had also a young couple who had an almighty row at 3 am and this went on for at least 30 minutes before the staff spoke to them. The were slamming around the room and also... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colorful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
