I have been to many budget hotels in Singapore - this hotel was the worst experience for me. They request full payment in advance - no refunds in case you have to leave earlier. My room was tiny, very dark and smelly. The aircon blew directly to the bed. They couldn't provide a receipt at checkout - instead asked me... More

Everything was better than expected from the first encounter with a very helpful doorman, Mr. Ho, to checkout process. The location in China Town was convenient. The room was a bit small but very clean and well appointed. Would stay here again.

Hotel clean and comfortable. Sure rooms small but for the price in that location who cares. If alone it is perfect size because there is so much right outside hotel you wont be in the room. mattress could be better but still slept well. I would gladly stay again.

It's lot of chance that next time I visit Singapore I will stay here again. Very nice location, easy to out for eating the good foods and walk to mrt. hotel is clean. Staffs are so nice. But a little noisy at night and the single bed room are too small. anyway it worth the money xo

Unique but comfortable stay at the heart of Chinatown Singapore. Conveniently close to many attactions, food vendors and transportation junctions. One of the hidden gems of Singapore. Definitely will come and stay here again next time

Cheap for Singapore, tiny room as most hotels found here but clean. No Breakfast here, McDonalds is just up the street. Bed was hard (as found in most of Asia) and a bit lumpy, some springs were felt which made it slightly uncomfortable. Ensuite totally floods with water when using the shower and takes a while to drain, a problem if... More

Stayed in a single room, but it has no window and only small red lights. I felt like being in a prison... The location is convenient and it is the centre of China town. You can enjoy shopping, Chinese cuisine, and walking around the city.

There are several Santa Grand hotels in Singapore. This one is a few doors away from another one. It is a tourist hotel, priced very reasonably. The location is excellent, just a two-minute walk from the metro. It is in the center of Chinatown, and convenient to everything in Singapore via the metro. The room was very small, but clean... Santa Grand Lai Chun Yuen is a hotel with character. Its a 1888 Chinese opera house beautifully restored. Quite a break from the sterile hotel chains all over. Location is bang on , next to Pagoda St. Chinatown, Singapore. One entrance opens into the food street and the MRT station is barely a 2 minutes walk. Managed to walk with... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colorful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
